Before I could even react, Garrison barked, “Stop wasting time! I’ve got a date with the Finleys!”
“If you keep me from that, I’ll make sure you regret it!”
Susan glared at me, dripping with contempt. “Garrison’s being generous, giving you a grand. Don’t push your luck!”
Then, without waiting for my response, she
hopped back in the car, and they sped off.
I just watched them go, not even bothering to call the cops.

Then, I called Garrison’s dad.
He picked up right away, all syrupy sweet. “Ms.

“Are you and Garrison getting along? What do

I snorted. “Oh, we met alright. Your son’s something else!”
“He threatened me. Said I wouldn’t see the light of day.”
“And his assistant said she’d have me killed!”
“Mr. Garrison, your family has some serious pull!”
He panicked. “Ms. Finley, there must be some

I cut him off. “Ask your son about it.
“Your family’s too powerful for the likes of me. We Finleys are just a small family, and we wouldn’t want to upset you. You might decide to wipe us off the map.”

He tried calling Garrison, but he didn’t answer.
Furious, he jumped in his car and sped towards my place.
On the way home, I called my bestie.
After hearing what happened, she was shocked. “Someone’s threatening you in this town?
