Chapter 11 Person or Money?
“You recommended Ms. Melton to be a secretary? Are you insane?” Another person had a different opinion.
“Ms. Melton is young, beautiful, and experienced. Every CEO and headhunter will want her if she begins job hunting.”
Guadalupe smiled and gave no response.
In fact, a headhunter called her about 10 days ago and fished for her future career plans. She didn’t tell anyone that she would resign back
then.
Her former subordinates were still on the topic.
“Don’t be so short–sighted. It’s Eclipse Group’s CEO’s chief secretary! It comes with the chance to know Freyburgh’s bigwigs. It’s a promising job.”
“I know that a capable secretary of an overseas company was promoted to a deputy CEO and even became the CEO’s wife.”
“Really? I want to apply for the job now.”
“Does anyone know how Eclipse Group’s CEO looks? Is he handsome?”
“No idea. The Hodge family has four children. Only the second one has shown up in public. The other three are mysterious.”
They kept gossiping.
But they got off the subject.

They still had fantasies about love, while Guadalupe would not want love anymore.
Instead, she would focus on her career.
She wanted to start her own business, but her connections all knew Desmond. Once they divorced, no one could help her.
Thus, she did need to widen her connections.

At night, Guadalupe asked a social butterfly in a circle of the upper class about Eclipse Group’s mysterious CEO.
Casual laughter came through the phone. “Aren’t you afraid of your husband getting jealous?”
“It’s OK. His mind is on another woman.”
“Honey, have you…really broken up?” Roselyn Galloway asked.
“Not yet.”
Roselyn got it immediately and sighed. “Turns out the rumors are true. You’ve been together for 8 years. Desmond is such a jerk.”
Since Roselyn said that, Guadalupe responded in a pitiful voice, “So I need to be making plans. I heard that Eclipse Group’s CEO is recruiting a secretary, so I want to try.”
“To be honest, do you want the person or just money?”
“Ell devote the rest of my life to making money.”
Roselyn gave a hearty laugh. “Rest assured. You’ll see him.”

“Thank you.”
“I’ll let you know.”
After the phone call, Guadalupe sat in front of her laptop.
Little information about Ezequiel could be found online. “Ezequiel…” she
said and thought that she’d better know more about him.
Right then. Desmond pushed the study’s door open and got in.
Guadalupe closed her laptop.
They each had a study. In the past, they always spent time together at home. But as love faded away, they always stayed in different rooms after work.
“Do you need anything?” Guadalupe looked up.
“Can I only get in when I need something?”
“No, of course not.” Meanwhile, Guadalupe thought, “When I’m gone, you can even get in naked.”
Desmond darted a suspicious look at her laptop. Obviously, there was something in it that she didn’t want him to know.
Then, he sat on the lounger. “I want to talk to you about something.”
Guadalupe said, “Shoot.”
Desmond looked down and thought for a while. “Linda wants to work in the Project Department.”
Guadalupe had figured it wouldn’t be something good, but still, he was caught by surprise.
Her face darkened. “Of all the departments, why does she want to take the Project Department down?”
Desmond was annoyed. “She’s not taking it down. She wants to make something of herself. It’s worthy of encouragement.”
Guadalupe was pissed. “You can give her a department, but not the Project Department. It’s my department. Those are my people!”
“Be reasonable. Guadalupe. You don’t work there anymore. And the Project Department is not yours!”
Desmond seemed to have a point.
Guadalupe had a lump in her throat.
Zenith Group was his, and she didn’t get to say no.
The Project Department was here today because of Guadalupe. But there was nothing she could do if Desmond insisted on using it to please his
mistress.
Desmond suppressed his anger and said, “Don’t think so ill of her. I promise she’ll not cause trouble. I’ll keep an eye on her.”
“Whatever.” Guadalupe said in a low voice.
She was too tired to argue.
Impatience brimmed Desmond’s eyes. “I’m talking about it with you because I don’t want you to be angry like this. I know you don’t like Linda, but you need to think for me. My family and the Graham family are business partners. I can’t damage the partnership for you.”
Guadalupe couldn’t believe that he had those warped views.
She thought, “What did I do wrong?
“I lost my husband and my job because of Belinda. And now I’m supposed to like her and satisfy all her wants?”
Guadalupe laughed.
It turned out that one would laugh when one was outraged. Her words were choked.

Three days later, Guadalupe went to the company to hand the job over.
In a Chanel suit, Belinda settled in Guadalupe’s office triumphantly.
Belinda even threw away all that was inside the office, including Guadalupe’s trophies.
The whole department freaked out.
They had been guessing who the new boss would be. This person didn’t need to be better than Guadalupe, but Belinda was a total idiot.
Those in the Secretary Department said that Belinda didn’t even know how to use a printer. She played video games every day and barely worked. The other day, a virus infected her computer while she was downloading a game, so she used a secretary’s computer against the secretary’s will. Then, she even accidentally deleted an important file.
In the end, the CEO fired the victim.
Everyone in the Project Department was afraid of what Belinda would do.
In the office, Guadalupe was performing the handover with a poker face.
Right after she picked up some important files, Belinda spoke, “Guadalupe, how are you feeling?”
In the chair, Belinda looked at Guadalupe condescendingly. “You lost your husband and your job. You had spent years getting all that, but I took it away with no effort. Do you know why? Because I’m from a rich family and you are not. I’m well–connected and you are not. I’ve seen many social–climbing beauties like you in our circle. You are just men’s toys. What makes you think the Harrison family will accept you?”
