Chapter 26 Interrogation
She quickly went over their conversation in her mind.
Ezequiel said he was back to sleep, and she said the same,
So…
What exactly was he getting at?
How was she supposed to respond to him?
Earlier, Guadalupe had been the star of the banquet hall. Now, she lifted her teary eyes, looking confused and embarrassed, just like a little girl being questioned. Her delicate look was so innocent and sweet that it made men’s hearts tingle.
Ezequiel averted his gaze.
When Guadalupe saw that he wasn’t going to ask anything more, she lowered her head.
The conversation ended abruptly. When the elevator reached her floor, she politely said goodbye, “Mr. Hodge, good night.”
Ezequiel nodded slightly.
Guadalupe stepped out and watched as the elevator door closed bit by bit.
Just as she was about to relax, a slender finger suddenly stuck out from the crack of the elevator door, and the elevator door slowly opened once more.

What was going on?
Guadalupe’s relaxed nerves tensed up once more.
“I tried on the suit,” Ezequiel said calmly.
He just wanted to tell her that.
Guadalupe smiled. “Does it fit?”
“It doesn’t fit right. The shoulders are too narrow and the pants are too short.”
Guadalupe had no idea what to say.

Guadalupe was taken aback and silently sighed in disappointment, “Well, then… I guess I should compensate
you.”
Ezequiel didn’t react to her suggestion.
He simply stared at her with eyes deeper than the star–filled sky and the vast sea, showing no hint of either happiness or anger.
The elevator door slowly closed again.
Guadalupe stood at the elevator entrance, her mind filled with confusion.
She thought, “What does that mean?
“Is it a good thing or a bad thing?
“Couldn’t he just give me a clear answer?”

everything on her own, was really tiring. That was precisely why she left in a hurry after just a few words. Talking to Ezequiel was so nerve–wracking… It felt like her brain cells died all at once.
She then realized that she was criticizing him, yet he was her savior. He had even lowered his status to testify for her tonight. He had come to the park out of concern for her.
When Guadalupe considered it in this way, she realized that she seemed ungrateful.
After returning home, she tossed her bag aside, slumped forward on the sofa, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

At the Police Station.
Desmond stared at the nine photos the police had placed in front of him. There were eight men and one woman. The men all looked lewd.
He couldn’t bear to think about what would have happened if his wife had really been raped by these despicable men.
He couldn’t bring himself to imagine how desperate Guadalupe must have been at that moment.
“Your wife stated that after she was administered a sedative injection last night and then locked inside a hotel room, she made three calls to you. You didn’t pick up the first two calls, and the third call couldn’t get through at first.
“However, when the call finally connected, it was your mistress Belinda who answered the phone. Your wife has a

recording of that conversation, and we’re going to play it for you right now.” the police officer said and pressed the play button.
Desmond listened to the record, and it was like being tortured all over again.
With the police saying Guadalupe had called him three times, the whole thing became clear and unfolded in his mind. He put his head on his arms, his eyes full of pain.
“Tell me, why didn’t you answer your wife’s calls? And why was your phone in your mistress’s hands?”
The police officer’s tone was matter–of–fact, with a hint of disdain underlying his coldness.
Desmond composed himself and looked up. “I was working overtime at the company last night. Belinda … came into my office. She took my phone and said she was going to play a video game. I was busy with work, so I didn’t care too much about it.”
“You actually let your mistress have your mobile phone, a personal belonging?” These words didn’t convince the police.
“You can check the surveillance footage. There are cameras installed in my office.”
“Sure, we will definitely get to the bottom of it.”
In two other interrogation rooms, Belinda and Elyse were also being questioned.
Belinda wept and shifted all the blame onto Elyse.
When asked if Desmond was involved, she vehemently denied

it and said excitedly that he had nothing to do with it and didn’t know anything. She claimed that she had said those things on the phone just to provoke Guadalupe.
She looked so infatuated as if everyone else could perish, but nothing should happen to her beloved lover.
Considering what Belinda had done, the two police officers in charge of interrogating her felt like spitting at her.
Elyse sat on a chair in the interrogation room, her face alternating between pale and red.
She answered all the questions the police asked her truthfully.
She had never been so humiliated before.
She now regretted so much that she was filled with remorse. She had thought the Graham family’s lady would be kind and that Belinda would make a good daughter–in–law. But she never expected Belinda to be so wicked.
Belinda had done such a vicious thing and then shifted the blame onto her… She would agree to her marriage with Desmond.
While they were being interrogated, the lawyers of the Harrison family and Graham family had already rushed to the Police Station and attempted to secure their bail.
Taniyah had expected this and remained at the Police Station to confront them. She provided the police with more criminal evidence and materials and expressed the victims‘ demands.
In any case, Belinda would never get away with it.
As for Desmond… he wouldn’t be released before eight

Two o’clock at midnight, Taniyah drove from the Police Station to Guadalupe’s apartment.
Guadalupe slept for a few hours and then woke up. She changed out of her red dress, removed her makeup, and started packing her luggage.
“I bought some midnight snacks, come on.”
The two of them sat on the balcony, enjoying barbecued food and drinking beer.
Guadalupe trailed her fingers along the glass and glanced up at the stars in the sky. “Someone told me that after getting revenge, I should be happy. That’s right. I’m supposed to be happy.”
She lifted her head and downed the beer in her glass in one go. Then, she gave a long, satisfied sigh and said, “Great!”
Taniyah looked at her beautiful face with that smile, yet she felt pity for Guadalupe.
Guadalupe’s marriage had been torturing her for years. She’d finally held on until the end, believing she could leave
Desmond the way she desired. But Desmond hadn’t even allowed her that one simple wish.
He had forced her to the brink of madness and made a mess.

from the fact that Taniyah herself had lost faith in love and was feeling conflicted.
She couldn’t help but wonder no matter how beautiful, outstanding, or kind–hearted a girl might be, she would inevitably end up being disappointed and hurt.
Guadalupe held the wine glass against her chest and stared into the distance in silence. “I can’t reject all the men just because I was hurt by one jerk.
“But I’m scared. When love tries to get close to me, I’l probably run away.”
Taniyah nodded in understanding.
In the end, Guadalupe no longer believed in love…
They finished all the wine. Then, tucked under the quilt, they engaged in a long conversation. They shared tales of both joy and sorrow, chatting about the bygone days, the present moment, and their hopes for the future. There were tears and peals of laughter. In the end, Guadalupe embraced Taniyah and they fell asleep.
Early in the morning.
Guadalupe put on a windbreaker and wheeled her luggage into the living room.
Taniyah hugged her. “Don’t worry about anything. Leave the rest to me. When you come back from your trip and get the divorce certificate, you’ll be able to say goodbye to him completely.”
“Sure.” Guadalupe nodded.

Guadalupe made up her mind to go on the trip as planned. Even though it could be seen as selfish to dump everything on Tani, she sincerely yearned to get away for a while, be it in any corner of the globe.
Guadalupe’s flight was scheduled for 8 a.m.
Taniyah intended to drive her to the airport, but she received a call from the Police Station stating that Desmond’s suspicion had been cleared. He would be released in half an hour after completing the formalities!
“Guada, I’ve got something urgent to deal with. Take a taxi to the airport. Have a safe trip,” Taniyah said. She kept this information to herself instead of telling Guadalupe. Then, she walked over and caressed Guadalupe’s head, grabbed her bag, and dashed out in a hurry.
Damn Desmond!
Even if she had to sit on the ground and cling to his legs today, Taniyah was dead set on stalling him until precisely eight o’clock!
Guadalupe left the apartment with her luggage.
While standing at the entrance of the community waiting for a taxi, she received an unfamiliar phone call.
As she stared at the phone screen, her sixth sense told her that it would be better not to answer it…
Just then, a silver–roofed Maybach drove out of the community. As it passed Guadalupe, it came to a smooth halt.
The car’s window was rolled down, and Miguel smiled warmly.

Guadalupe lifted her head. Startled, she then made up her mind to answer truthfully, “I’m heading for the airport.”
“What a coincidence. We’re going there too. Come on, we can give you a ride.”
