Chapter 29 Mistake
There was a rustling on the bed and Ezequiel finally moved.
Before Guadalupe could react, a large hand pressed the back of her head.
Suddenly, her lips touched his chin…
Guadalupe opened her eyes wide in an instant.
The smooth texture of his skin, the potent hormonal aroma, the warmth radiating from him, the subtle fragrance, and the exquisite tactile experience … all were distinctly conveyed to her brain.
Ezequiel froze for a few seconds.
He let go and leaned his head back. But he then still put his hand on the back of her head, pulling her head away.
Their eyes met.
Guadalupe looked dazed, and Ezequiel was expressionless.
After a while, Guadalupe seemed to come back to her senses. She swiftly swatted his hand away and got up. Then, she hastily ran her hands through her hair, attempting with all her might to calm her rapid breathing.
After saying that, she practically fled the room.
Ezequiel was speechless.

He remained silent for a long time and then placed the back of his hand over his eyes.
Guadalupe rushed back to her room without even pausing for breath.
She went into the bathroom and splashed water on her face. In the mirror, she saw her face flushed, showing her
embarrassment.
She had just been following the work routine to wake up her boss. How on earth did it end up with her kissing his chin?
It was really
…
strange!
At six o’clock, she reluctantly went to Ezequiel’s suite again.
Gilbert was already there.
The two of them stood together in the living room of the suite, waiting for Ezequiel to come out.
While waiting, she glanced at Gilbert beside her and thought to herself that since Gilbert had been working with Ezequiel for so long, he must have done the same task she had just now. She wondered if had experienced something similar.
An uncontrollable image popped into her mind: Clbert pouncing on Ezequiel and being forced to kiss his chin…
It was beyond her imagination.
“Guadalupe, why are you looking at me like that?” Gilbert couldn’t help but touch his face, feeling uncomfortable under her confused and troubled gaze.

“It’s nothing, really. I just…” Guadalupe placed her hand on her chest. “I don’t think our job is an easy one.”
“Work is never easy. You just have to get used to it.”
“You have a positive attitude towards work.”
“What else can I do? Am I supposed to lose my temper with Mr. Hodge?”
Guadalupe pursed her lips.
She couldn’t voice what was in her heart.
What Gilbert said made sense. But Guadalupe just felt something was wrong.
Ezequiel had been standing in the dressing room for a minute already.
He had witnessed Guadalupe’s series of expressions as she looked at Gilbert and then heard her say that their job wasn’t
easy.
Ezequiel lowered his head and frowned. A faint smile, tinged with annoyance, was played on his lips.
He then walked over.
“Mr. Hodge,”
Gilbert turned around, and Guadalupe did the same.
Her eyes met Ezequiel’s gaze. After a brief moment of eye contact, her eyes quickly shifted away and landed on the buttons of his shirt. She appeared to be showing great respect.

Ezequiel headed out. Guadalupe and Gilbert followed behind him.
The car departed from the hotel and made its way to Cedar Marina.
Inside the car, it was silent.
Guadalupe, sitting in the back seat, felt her body involuntarily tense up. She tried to relax, but then the memory of that kiss suddenly flashed through her mind.
She thought, “Oh, my goodness! Can I just get amnesia?”
“Guadalupe,” A low, drawling voice came from beside her.
Guadalupe immediately responded reflexively, “Yes? Mr. Hodge, what do you need?”
“Get me a bottle of water.”
“Sure.” She took a bottle of water from the small refrigerator in the car, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to him.
Ezequiel pushed the water back towards her. “Here, take small sips and relax. Don’t keep dwelling on the mistakes at work.”
The lights outside the window were shining brightly, casting a colorful glow on her pretty face.
Guadalupe turned her body slightly and took a big gulp of the mineral water as if she were drinking wine.
Gilbert, sitting in the passenger seat, was puzzled.
He thought, “Mistake? Did Guadalupe make a mistake?

The car pulled up at Cedar Marina,
The driver stayed with the car, Guadalupe and Gilbert trailed behind Ezequiel as they boarded the yacht.
It was a luxurious three–story yacht, gleaming pure white.
The first floor was for business receptions. The second floor had a big pool for entertainment. The third floor was where the guest rooms were. At the top, there was an area with the best view and privacy, and it had a set of large round sofas.
Korbin Heath came to welcome them in person.
He patted Ezequiel’s arm. His wrinkled face was full of smiles.
His excessive enthusiasm was a bit off–putting.
There were about a dozen people in the yacht, all of them wealthy and prominent figures in Chainia.
Among them was a beautiful young woman. She was of a petite build, with a wheatish complexion, and her smile was so infectious.
“This is my granddaughter, Adalyn Heath. She’s twenty–one years old. She has just returned from her studies in Smeybia, where she majored in art. She graduated from the same school as you, Mr. Hodge,” Korbin said proudly as he introduced Adalyn.

Guadalupe and Gilbert remained on the deck. Nevertheless, they were able to observe the happenings inside the yacht through the large floor–to–ceiling windows.
Upon seeing this scene, the two of them exchanged a silent look… It seemed like there was a blind date element to this
party.
Ezequiel greeted them politely.
Adalyn stared at him, her eyes filled with admiration. She was petite, standing less than 1.6 meters tall. Looking up at Ezequiel, who was 1.9 meters tall, straight, and handsome, she was so excited.
“If Mr. Hodge had known that Mr. Heath intended to get his granddaughter and him together, he wouldn’t have come at all,” Gilbert said helplessly.
“Mr. Heath can’t just say he invited him to introduce his granddaughter,” Guadalupe said, folding her arms across her chest. “Anyway, if they like each other, it could lead to a nice romance.”
“Adalyn is not Mr. Hodge’s type.”
“How do you know?”
“Of course I…” Gilbert was about to explain when his eyes flashed over to the dock. His voice cut off sharply, and he cried out, “Why is she here?”
“Who is it?”
Guadalupe couldn’t make out what he was saying and followed his gaze.

She saw a beautiful woman with shoulder–length short hair. She was extremely slender, boasting a long and elegant neck and a dainty face. Dressed in a black sleeveless satin dress and clutching a small black handbag, she exuded an air of elegance and haughtiness, much like a black swan.
“Melany Garner, the general manager of the branch here,” Gilbert said and quickly walked over.
Melany?
Guadalupe had seen her name when looking through the documents, but she hadn’t expected that Melany would be such a stunning beauty.
“Ms. Garner,” Gilbert stopped Melany as she was about to step onto the stairs.
“Gilbert.”
Melany looked at him coldly. “Long time no see.”
She glanced back and was about to sidestep Gilbert and go up when she caught sight of Guadalupe, and her eyes turned even colder. “Who is this?”
Guadalupe extended her hand in a generous gesture. “Nice to meet you, Ms. Garner. I’m Guadalupe Melton, Mr. Hodge’s secretary.”
Guadalupe wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but she saw. Melany’s expression grow even icier. A hint of sadness Melany’s in her eyes as she said. “Secretary, huh.”
Guadalupe was speechless.
Melany didn’t shake Guadalupe’s hand. She brushed past

them with an air of coldness and walked inside.
“Ms. Garner, she…” Guadalupe looked at Gilbert in bewilderment.

Gilbert sighed. “She’s the daughter of Mrs. Hodge’s friend. She was raised in the Hodge household. There’s some … emotional entanglement between her and Mr. Hodge, something of a love–hate dynamic.”
Guadalupe suddenly understood. “Ah, I see.”
No wonder Ezequiel had chosen Chainía as his first stop. The one he cared about was here.
