Chapter 19
“What did you say?”
Samuel frowned slightly as he was supporting Aileen.
The nurse thought he didn’t hear her words clearly, so she patiently repeated.
“Ms. Parrish has a superficial wound on her neck. Other than that, she’s perfectly fine. She has two instead of one kidney. You’ve got nothing to worry about. After we treat her wound, she can go home with you.”
“No way.
Samuel and Aileen were both puzzled and shocked.
Aileen reacted first after a few seconds.
She grabbed Samuel’s hand. “Samuel, Antonio can’t know about this. Once he finds out, he’ll go confront Kyla right away. She’s so fragile that she can’t be set off again.”
Samuel hadn’t lost his last shred of rationality.
He said in a deep voice, “Kyla has two kidneys. Then who donated a kidney to Antonio back then? Have you thought about that?”
Immediately, a name flashed across both of their minds.
It was Grace, their biological daughter who had been forgotten and neglected by them.

“That’s impossible,” Aileen denied it subconsciously.
Meanwhile, Samuel frowned and looked at Kyla, who was unconscious,
He suddenly had a feeling, perhaps he had never really known Kyla, hist daughter who he had doted on for twenty–five years.
Neither of them spoke again till Kyla was wheeled into the ward.
They could both see hesitation in each other’s eyes.
Naomi was at the CEO’s office at the Parrish Group.
Two hours earlier, she had come here from the church alone.
She was the heiress apparent to the Parrish Group, and it was easy peasy for her if she wanted to know something.
Her assistant was efficient.
Half an hour ago, he had printed out the information she wanted and delivered it to her.
There were Grace’s medical reports and records with results similar to those of the reports Grace had left behind, and he even managed to obtain surveillance footage from two cameras,
One recorded the scene where Grace and Antonio entered the operating room for the kidney transplant.
The other showed Grace was beaten and tortured by other inmates in jail.
The footage was blurry with a bad angle.
Clearly, it was captured by the prison’s surveillance camera accidentally.
As Naomi watched it, her eyes turned red.
Grace was her own sister after all.
She thought, “I disliked Grace when I was little, and she is so mean to
Kyla
“But no matter what, Grace and I are related by blood.
“She was treated so ruthlessly in jail.
“Who gave those prisoners the nerve to torture Grace, the daughter of the Parrish family?
“Didn’t Mom, Dad, and Antonio already bribe the prison guards, asking them to look out for Grace?
“Also, how come Grace looked so frail and fragile? Antonio and I clearly had someone give her a lot of stuff, including both food and clothes.”
All kinds of questions kept popping up in her mind.
She called her assistant over again.
“Keep looking into it. I wanna know why these people dare to assault Grace. Who gave them the nerve?”
“I’m on it.” Her assistant nodded and left quickly.
After he left, Naomi slumped into her chair dejectedly.
Grace only had one kidney and had a lame leg, and her body was covered by scars, the result of years of beating and wouldn’t fade away…
Chapter 19
Naomi closed her eyes.
The storage she saw in the morning, the one Grace had lived in for twelve years, suddenly came back to her.
She opened her eyes after quite a long while.
Then her gaze fell on the old, cheap diary.
Suddenly, it seemed like a Pandora’s box to her.
The diary might contain many things proving that many of her thoughts over the years were wrong.
It was just like the thick stack of medical reports and records right in front of her.
Mustering her courage, she finally opened the first page.
“Today is December 13th, 2012, and it’s sunny. I don’t know why, but I just can’t shake off the feeling that my parents and sisters aren’t quite happy about seeing me back. And my sister, Kyla, the way she looks at me gives me goosebumps.
“Well, I’m probably overthinking. I’ll try my best to be part of the family. I’ll be the best daughter and elder sister in the world.”
Two hours passed.
Naomi finally reached the last page of the diary.
When she saw that Grace wrote those words in the language they thought she didn’t understand, she was dumbfounded.
Grace knew the language!
It meant she understood everything they said back at home.
As she read the words “From now on, you’ll only have one sister“, her hands holding the diary trembled uncontrollably.
She suddenly realized something.
Grace wasn’t throwing a tantrum or trying to get anyone’s attention.
Grace left. She left the place where she could hardly call her home, where no one cared about her, including her family and her fiance.
