Chapter 25
“Is she dead?”
Antonio rubbed the bridge of his nose, all he wanted to know was whether Kyla was dead or not.
“No, she’s not The fire department arrived in time. The air cushion and slide were already set up when she jumped. Besides, Ms. Kyla didn’t really want to die in the first place.”
Simon realized he was out of the line after he said that last sentence.
Realizing his mistake, he quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, Mr. Kaufman. I just can’t accept what Ms. Kyla did to Ms. Grace, so I let my emotions get the better of me. It won’t happen again.”
If it were in the past, Antonio would have snapped and even fired Simon right away
But after learning the truth, his attitude toward Kyla had completely changed.
So, he didn’t actually mind Simon’s “slip“.
For some reason, he suddenly remembered the first time Grace was hospitalized after coming back.
That day, she slept so long under the pure white blanket.
He stood by the bed the whole time, watching her in silence.
Back then, he loved her so much; she was the person he wanted to protect.
the most.
He still remembered that there was a thin layer of water vapor on the glass window that day.
Grace woke up from a nightmare and suddenly smiled at him gently.
“Antonio, do you still remember? The first time we met was on such at
snowy day”
As Antonio recalled, he smiled bitterly.
How he wished he could go back in time to that day and hold Grace in his arms tightly.
He’d tell her. “I do. I surely do. I’ll never forget anything about you.”
He looked out the window, tonight, it was still snowing in Osmal City
“Mr. Kaufman, the car is in the parking lot. The Parrish family hope you’ll go visit her.”
Simon’s voice rang out again. Only then did Antonio realize the call hadn’t been disconnected.
After much consideration, he went to Maple Sanatorium.
The second he entered the ward, Kyla pounced at him, her face full of
lears.
“Antonio, how could you do this to me?”
Her tearful question rang a bell.
In those hazy dreams of his, the emaciated Grace used to ask him the
same question.
“Antonio, how could you do this to me?”
Was Grace crying?
No, she wasn’t
In a daze. Antonio took a few seconds to recall carefully.
The first time he saw Grace after seven years was at the prison gate. From that second to the last time he saw her, which was at the Parrish’s villa. she had never shed a tear in front of him.
“Kyla.”
He lowered his head to look at Kyla, who had become shockingly haggard and pale overnight.
With a half–smile, he continued, “I haven’t even started doing anything to you yet.”
Those several words coming from him instantly sent a chill down Kyla’s spine, and she stopped crying at once.
“Antonio…” She looked up at him with tearful eyes, terrified.
“Kyla. I had Simon pull out Grace’s medical records from her seven years in Pine Prison. Oh, and I also found many orders supposedly from me. such as ruining her face or making her die without anyone knowing in solitary confinement.”
Antonio looked into Kyla’s eyes, saying calmly, “Are you behind these things, too?”
Kyla bit her trembling lip and slowly said, “Yes”
The word completely made Antonio’s heart sink.
Finally, he finally knew why Grace would sometimes have such reactions.
Was it because she was afraid of being assaulted again?
During those seven years, all the inmates who beat her up and insulted her would say. “Someone outside wants you dead.”
“Antonio, I swear I’ll change. Where’s Grace? I’ll how to her, apologize to her, and beg for her forgiveness, OK?”
Noticing Antonio’s increasingly cold expression, Kyla clasped her hands. together, pleading.
Beg for Grace’s forgiveness?
How was that going to change anything? No one knew where Grace was
now
No one could ever make up for the harm done to her.
Suddenly, Antonio smiled, his heart torn apart by bitterness.
His heart ached so much; he wished he could go back in time and strangle his past self.
‘Antonio”
Antonio’s constant silence made Kyla even more uneasy and terrified.
“Kyla, you gotta pay for your sins slowly.”
