Chapter

The bathroom door slid open so quietly, Alan almost missed it. Then he felt slender arms wrap gently around his waist from behind.% He froze. Before he could tum, Summer nuzzled her face into the curve of his neck, her lips brushing softly against his skin. AlanCan weHer voice was barely a whisper

A shadow of concern flickered in Alan’s eyes. Hey, sweetheart, you don’t have to force yourself. Were not in a rush about the baby!% But her fingers trailed lower, tracing his stomach, making his breath catch

But I want you. Right nowshe murmured

Alan’s eyes darkened. In one smooth motion, he scooped her up and dropped her onto the bed, following right after, his body covering hers.

His kisses came hot and fast, one after another, until their breaths tangled in the thick air

Sweetheart.

Then, out of nowhere, a phone started ringingloud and jarring.

Alan didn’t stop. His lips kept moving, trailing down her neck and shoulder

She gasped, trying to press him back. Alanthe phone

He barely glanced at the phone, just pulled her closer, Ignore it. Focus on me

The ringtone kept going, drilling through the tension until the moment shattered.

Alan pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, I’ll just answer this real quick. I’ll be right back.

He grabbed his phone and slipped out the door

Summer sat up, wrapping the blanket around herself as she wandered toward the balcony. Alan had never taken a call away from her before, no matter how big or small. What kind of call would make him step out now?

She was about to push open the balcony door when Alan beat her to it, opening it from the other side.

His brows were furrowed, his voice low and comforting as he spoke into the phone. When he saw her, he covered the receiver, looking at her with regret. Sweetheart, there’s something urgent at work. I have to go, right now.

Before she could even answer, he grabbed his keys and vanished into the night.

The light in Summer’s eyes faded, a bitter ache rising in her chest.

Ever since Alan took over the company, he was hardly ever home. Hights together had become rarealmost precious

And now, when they’d finally gotten a chance, it had slipped away in an instant.

She just stood there for a long while, staring at the empty doorway, before finally bending down to gather up their scattered clothes

As she carried the bundle toward the laundry room, a slip of paper fell from Alan’s pockel

Summer bent to pick it up, but when she saw what was written on it, her heart started pounding

it’s a pregnancy test report

And in the space for the family signature, Alar’s name was written in bold, unmistakable strokes

For a moment, the world went silent. She couldn’t hear anything except her own heartbeat as her hands trembled, clutching the paper

At first, she told herself it had to be a mistake. There were plenty of people with that same name

But the longer she stared at that handwriting, the harder it was to lie to herself. She’d seen that signature all her lifeAlan had signed every report card she’d ever brought home

Suddenly, she rerneribered what Mane had said after yet another round of pressuring her If you can’t give me a grandchild, I’ll have my son find another woman. I want a grandbaby this year, no matter what

Did Alan really go to someone elsefr

No Summer shook her head. That couldn’t be. He loved hershe knew he did. The last time Marie had tried to push the idea, Alan had gotten so angry he’d nearly trashed the house

There’s no way My child will only come from Summerhe’d said, voice fercas

Ader’s father Paul had been so mad, he’d called Alan a fool to his face

However, Alar’s name was right there, on the pregnancy report Doutils twister) in her chest. Summer pulled out her phone, about to call him, but hesitated, remembering how fustered held looked when he left. What if it really was an emergency? She didn’t want to make things worse

in the end, she put down her phone and tucked the report away

Ihat night, she tossed and turned, sleep nowhere to be found
