Upon returning from his visit to Isabella, Noah immediately ordered an investigation into Ellie’s recent activities. It didn’t. take long before he uncovered the incriminating evidence he had been dreading,
“Damn you! How dare you run Isabella down with your car! Are you trying to destroy our family?” Noah stormed into Ellie’s room and kicked the door open with such force that it slammed against the wall before bouncing back.

If i wasn’t intentional, what were you even doing there?” He tossed several surveillance photos onto the coffee table, the images speaking for themselves. The footage was clear. Ellie had been lurking in the shadows, poised to jump in and save Isabella

premeditated–an elaborate set–up to trick Isabella and win the favor of the Gordon family.
Ellie’s face paled as she flipped through the photos. Her first reaction was relief. At least, they didn’t catch that woman on camera, she thought.
That day, Ellie had planned to dash out and save Isabella, but when she saw a woman who looked uncannily like her adoptive mother, she froze in place. By the time she came to hersenses, Isabella had already been rescued by that woman.
Ellie tried to soothe Noah, and she said in a voice dripping with hise sweetness, “Come on, dear brother. I did this for our family. The Cooper family’s influence is dwindling, but if I could get close to Mr. Gordon, think of what it could do for us.. We’d be unstoppable.”
Noah’s eyes flashed with contempt. Idiot Do you really think someone like Levi Gordon is within your reach?”
He scoffed in his mind, I should show Mom and Dad just how foolish the girl they adopted really is. So many high–society women have tried to get close to Levi, and all met disastrous ends. Does she really believe that an alternative like her could ever catch Levi’s eye? She’s living in a fantasy
Ellie’s face turned from red to livid, and tears welled up in her eyes. “Noah, I know I was wrong. Please, forgive me this once. The Gordon family has no idea it was me–I made sure to clean up everything. If I’m more careful next time, it’ll be fine…”
Before she could finish, Noah slapped her hard across the face. Ellie held her cheek in shock and stared at Noah, the brother she had always known to be gentle and composed. This was the first time she had ever seen him so furious. “Noah just hit me? Ellie thought, still processing the whole situation.
“You’re thinking of doing it again, right?” Noah’s voice was laced with venom. If the Gordon family hadn’t been so lenient, you’d already be rotting in a jail cell.”
He glared at her, his expression full of disgust. “You’re still here dreaming, pretending like you’re someone important. Take a good look in the mirror and see who’s given you everything you have.”

Ellie’s check still burned from the slap. In front of the servants, Noah actually hit her, and that slap stung bitterly in her heart. Ill remember this, Noah. You want your real daughter back so badly, huh? Fine. I’ll make sure she never comes back. she thought with a vengeful glint flashing in her eyes.
At Noble Garden Complex, Zoey had been staying there for several days, but she hadn’t seen any sign of Levi. She asked Linda about him, but even Linda didn’t have an answer,
All she could do was offer reassurance. “Ms. Miller, just put your mind at ease and focus on recovering. Mr. Cordon is probably just too busy with work to come back.”
Is that true? But why hasn’t he called me even once? Zoey wondered, and a subtle disappointment crept into her heart. Later that evening, she was sitting in the living room and watching TV and gradually, she fell asleep on the couch
When Levi returned, he found her sleeping there, wearing only a thin dress, with nothing to cover her. His expression darkened immediately.
Does she not remember she’s still on her period? How could she sleep in an air–conditioned room like this without a blanket: She’s just asking to get sick, Levi thought to himself, his frustration rising.
“Get up.” Levi walked over to the sofa and said to Zoey in a cold tone. Zoey’s petite body was curled up, seemingly oblivious to his words. Levi raised his voice and said again. I said, get up. Sull, he got no response from her
That was when Levi noticed something wasn’t right–her face was flushed, a deep, unnatural red. He touched her forehead with his hand and felt the heat radiating from her skin. The contact finally stirred Zoey from her sleep. She wrinkled her nose and murmured. “Mr. Horton, you’re back.”
“How do you know it’s me?” Levi asked.
“I can recognize your scent,” she answered, her smile pure and sweet, like an innocent child. Levi always carried a cool, woody sandalwood scent, and it made Zoey feel safe every time the smelled it. “Mr. Horton, you’ve been really busy lately. haven’t you? You haven’t had time to come home.”
Levi felt a twinge of discomfort at her words, and he muttered, “Yeah. In fact, he’d been avoiding coming back because of his suspicions about Zoey, ever since the incident with the Cooper family’s adopted daughter. He wasn’t sure what to make of her, and it made him hesitant to face her..
The only reason he’d come today was because his grandmother had relentlessly insisted. He wasn’t planning to stay–just a quick check–in and then leave.
But Zoey, with her flushed cheeks, reached out to tug at his sleeve, her voice weak but full of concern. “Mr. Horton, don’t overwork yourself. You have to take care of your health. Once I graduate from college, I’ll help you take some of the burden
off.”
After a pause, Zoey finally realized something was wrong with her body. She held her head and grumbled, “Ugh, my head

Levi let out a dry laugh and said, “You’ve g got a fever, and you didn’t even notice! What an idiot.”

Levi grabbed a light blanket and draped it over her. Then, he called Jack, “Get the family doctor over to Noble Garden Right away.”
Zoey felt dazed, her body heavy and drained of energy. “Hey… she mumbled, her voice faint.
When one got sick, they’d instinctively seek comfort from the person they relied on the most. Levi couldn’t ignore the way she kept calling for him, her voice as fragile as a kitten’s. His expression was grim, filled with conflicting emotions.

Levi let out a long sigh, walked over to the fridge, and grabbed an ice pack. He wrapped it in a towel and gently placed it on her forehead. Zoey’s feverish body instantly responded to the cool relief on her forehead, like a refreshing stream of water washing over her pain.
“You’ll feel better soon,” Levi said in his deep, steady voice.
Hearing Levi’s deep and reassuring voice, Zoey felt her unsettled heart immediately calm down.
