Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Zoey couldn’t even remember how she managed to run back to her room. All she knew was that her mind went totally blank, and she stood there, completely stunned.
Then, in the next moment, she felt her blood rushing straight to her head, and her face burned like fire. She darted back to her bedroom, slamming the door with a loud bang.
Levi glanced at the closed door, his expression hard to read. He’d said that on purpose just to make her hide. He was afraid that he might do something stupid under the influence of alcohol,
Levi usually had pretty solid self–control, but that was with other women. When it came to Zoey, though, it was like all his restraint just vanished. He couldn’t explain it.
Meanwhile, Zoey was hiding in her room, her palms pressed against her burning cheeks, her heart racing uncontrollably, Leaning against the door, she could hear Levi enter the bathroom. The water ran for a bit and stopped. Footsteps echoed out of the bathroom and back into the master bedroom.
It wasn’t until she heard the soft click of the bedroom door closing that Zoey finally let out a breath, kicked off her shoes, and got into bed.
She yanked the covers over her head, trying to block out the silence. All she could hear was the wild thudding of her heart and her ragged breathing.
Her mind started to wander. ‘Is Mr. Horton really that ugly? Why do I feel like… He’s kind of good at flirting? Zoey had gotten confessions from guys before, but she’d never really felt her heart skip a beat–there was always something missing.
And now, she didn’t even know what Levi looked like, yet her heart was racing for him. She wondered, ‘Is it because he’s too charming? Maybe he is ugly, but he’s really good at flirting
At that thought, a wave of jealousy bubbled up inside her. She cursed inwardly, “That jerk! He’s probably flirted with a ton of girls!
The next morning, Zoey tried her best to avoid making eye contact with Levi during breakfast.
“What? Am I that scary?” Levi narrowed his eyes suspiciously and watched her.
Zoey immediately straightened up and replied, “Of course not.” She still didn’t dare look up but stared stiffly at the table instead.
“It looks better than it tastes, huh? You can’t even lift your head?” Levi tapped the table with his fingers twice, not sure what happened to Zocy today.
Zoey was still in a mood over what she’d been stewing about before falling asleep last night, and she was silently sulking at Levi.
But then, she started questioning why she was even doing this. After all, Levi was way older than her–it was totally normal for him to have had more romantic experiences.
She was twisting herself up in knots, but Levi couldn’t read her mind and know what she was really feeling. She was just making herself suffer for
no reason.
While her brain might’ve understood that logic, her heart didn’t. She still felt a pang of jealousy and couldn’t shake this weird discomfort.
“I’m heading to class,” Zoey mumbled, barely touching her food before getting up to leave.
Before she could take a step, Levi grabbed her slender wrist, his voice low and serious. “What’s going on with you?”
Zoey kept her head down and grumbled, “Nothing.”
“Nothing? Then why are you acting like this?” he retorted, not buying what she said.
She kept her face cold and said in a flat voice, “I’m running out of time. Let go,” Her attitude was so obviously sulky that Levi could easily notice. He couldn’t wrap his head around it–what on earth had he done to get the cold shoulder so early in the morning?
Levi, who’d never been treated this way before, couldn’t help but laugh in frustration. “You really should look at your face now. Sorry, I forgot you’re blind and can’t see that.”
Zoey’s heart immediately clenched as she heard his remark, and a wave of unspoken sadness crashed over her. Her voice trembled, thick with emotion. “Yeah, I’m blind. Why don’t you marry someone nice and not blind to be your wife?”
Levi froze for a moment, and his expression clouded instantly, like a storm rolling in. His lips pressed into a thin line, and his gaze turned sharp, almost menacing.

Chapter 22
“Zoey, do you even know what you’re saying right now? His grip tightened on her wrist, so much so that a fet like he might crub her.
Zoey was already feeling, hurt and upset. She was now overwhelmed by the grains in her wrist, and in pushed all her pent–wy emotions to the surtecx like a dam breaking, Tears warted ureating down her face uechiky
“Mr. Horton, you don’t want me to be your wife, do you she checked out between whe
If that wasn’t the case, she thought, why should he be so hard? He looked like he was swallowing her whole Zory was complerdy mexenesest in relationships, and she was still clueless about what was really happening,
She hadn’t realized that somewhere along the way, she’d started falling for him. When it came to the crushes, it would be easy for people to lead
imecure.
‘Excuse me, did I ever way I don’t want your Levi’s brows furrowed in conferion
“My eyesight is bad. I grew up in a poor family. I know all this. I can’t compare to your ex priends, Zoey schhed, her voice staky,
Levi was totally baffled. Ex–girlfriends? What on earth was the talking about? I’ve never had an ex is the seriously accusing me of that? Levi thought. The absurdity of Zoey’s words made him let out a cold laugh. He mapped, “When did you ever see me with ex priends? Tell me that?
“Don’t you have any?” asked Zoey,
No, never. You’re the first one, he replied firmly.
Zoey wiped at her tears, her eyes puffy and red, and she pouted, “Enough, I ain’t buying it”
He must be lying, He’s pushing thirty, and how could he never be in a relationship before? And if he really hasrit, how could he firt with her so smoothly? Zoey thought bitterly
“Why don’t you believe me?” Levi asked
“Because you’re already 23” she blurted out. No woman would believe a man that age had never been in a relationship, and it was even likely that he already had plenty of experience.
Sure, it was normal for a man at his age to have an ex, but the thought of it still twisted Zoey up inside. The more she thought about it, the worse
she felt
“Oh? You think I’m old? Levi suddenly realized that Zoey was jealous,
Zoey’s nose was red from crying, and she looked up at him with teary, pitiful eyes. I’m not saying that. Don’t try to change the ubject
Levi took a deep breath, and his voice dropped to that cold, serious tone again. “Your husband is supposed to be some way way, right? Who che would want me? Only you, my blind wife, don’t mind having an ugly husband.
I’ve never been with anyone before you, and I won’t be with anyone else. Don’t ever tell me to marry someone che, okay?!
That last part was spoken with some intensity, and it was clear the thought had bruised Levi’s pride. Levi wasn’t exactly in love with Zoey yet, bast they were married. He believed in working things out rather than running away when things got tough.
He figured that since he was older and more experienced, he should be the one to take the lead. Zoey, on the other hand, was sensitive and prone to overthinking In Levi’s mind, being patient with his wife wasn’t a weakness–it was just part of being a man.
All of Zoey’s jealousy melted away when she heard Levi’s words, and her bad feelings were replaced by a wave of joy and sweetnew. With a soft smile, she said, “Mr. Horton, I’m sorry, I didn’t really mean that. I won’t ever say something like that again?
