Chapter 3

The moment Aurora stepped into the room, she froze for a second.

There, lying quietly on the hospital bed, was Zoey. Her face was bare of any make–up, drained of color, yet she looked strikingly young and fragile, her skin so smooth it seemed as if a touch could leave an imprint

She lay quietly with her eyes closed as the sunlight streaming through the window cast a soft, angelic glow on her delicate features. At the foot of the bed sat a shabby, worn–out yellow backpack, clearly worth next to nothing

A flicker of jealousy flashed in Aurora’s eyes. She stormed to the bedside, her fury boiling over. Without hesitation, she yanked the IV out of Zoey’s arm. “You wretch. Do you really think you could get close to Mr. Gordon?”

Zoey winced in pain, letting out a sharp hiss, her body tensing from the sudden sting. She turned her head in Aurora’s direction but kept her eyes closed. To Aurora, this looked like sheer disdain.

Enraged, Aurora’s voice dripped with venom. “Where do you get off, you stinking country bumpkin? You think you’re better than me! You have no idea who I am, do you? The Carter familys one of the most powerful in Cridonia. One call from me, and I could wipe out your entire family”

“T–I didn’t seduce anyone. Zoey stammered, clutching the blanker tightly, her panic rising. She couldn’t understand how this had all spiraled out of control. I’m just here to get treatment. When did I ever try to seduce anyone? she thought in disbelief

Aurora sneered, her lips curling with contempt, “You, a nobody from the sticks, managing to land yourself in this kind of high–end private hospital? You must have some nerve. Mr. Gordon is my fance, and you dared to try and take him from me? Ill tear that pretty little face of yours apart.”

Her hand shot up, preparing to slap Zoey hard across the face. Te gonna ruin her face. Let’s see how she dares to even look Mr. Gordon’s way after this, Aurora thought viciously.

“Stop” A deep, cold voice from behind cut through the tension, halting Aurora mid–motion.

Levi had just finished his work and was on his way to check on Zoey when he walked in on the scene. His expression darkened, ice chilling every word that followed. He grabbed Aurora’s wrist and forcefully shoved her aside. “Who gave you the right to do this to her?”

Aurora’s confidence faltered instantly. She stammered, her face shifting into a pathetic, tearful look, hoping to play the victim, “Mr. Gordon, you’ve got it all wrong. She insulted me first. She called me a slut. I was just trying to defend myself”

Zoey clutched her arm, wincing at the pain radiating from where the IV had been ripped out. Her brows furrowed, the discomfort clear on her face.

Levi’s gaze grew colder by the second as he took in Zoey’s wounded state. The tension in the room thickened, his temper hanging on a razor’s edge.

He wiped his hands with a handkerchief as if the mere touch of Aurora’s wrist had dirtied him, and tossed it to the floor without a second thought. His voice was sharp as a blade. “Get out.”

Aurora’s expression fell, shock replacing her once superior attitude. She tried to plead, stepping closer with a hurt expression. “Mr. Gordon, I didn’t mean to-

“I said get out,” Levi repeated, his voice dead of any warmth or emotion, his eyes cold enough to freeze over the room.

Aurora knew better than to push her luck any further. If she kept at it, she might not only ruin her own chances with Levi, but also drag down her family’s business. That was a risk she couldn’t afford.

With her pride shattered and no choice but to retreat, she grabbed her purse and rushed out of the room, barely able to keep herself together.

Just before disappearing through the doorway. Aurora turned back, her eyes flashing with malice “You’ll regret this” She hissed under her breath.

The tension in the hospital room was almost palpable, as if the very air had thickened.

Zozo“” Levi’s voice broke the silence, soft yet commanding.

Zoey slowly released her grip on the blanket, revealing the deep red marks on her left wrist, a stark reminder of Aurora’s earlier viciousness when she yanked out Zoey’s IV. The bruises stood out against her clear skin like an accusation.

Levi’s face darkened. Without a word, he signaled for a nurse to come in, who swiftly began tending to Zoey’s injuries and reattached the IV. Throughout, Levi remained cold, his emotions hidden beneath an icy exterior.

Though Levi couldn’t be sure yet whether Zoey had any ulterior motives, she was, after all, his grandmother’s savior. He wouldn’t allow anyone to bully her. If it turned out she had deceived him, then her punishment would be dealt with by the Gordon family, not outsiders.

Stepping out of the room, Levi shifted from calm to decisive. Efe pulled out his phone and made a call.

Later that night, Daniel was pacing outside Levi’s mansion, practically begging for forgiveness. “I was wrong. Mr. Gordon. Please don’t let my dad ship me off to Flolito.”

The mere thought of being exiled to that remote, poverty–stricken place was enough to make Daniel’s knees buckle. Life in Flofito would be hell compared to his lavish lifestyle here, surrounded by luxury and beautiful women.

In his mind, he couldn’t fathom why Levi, of all people, someone who hadn’t even tasted the pleasures of intimacy, could be so disciplined, so utterly indifferent. In his eyes, if Levi tasted the sweetness of desire just once, he’d never return to his cold, restrained ways.

Levi, standing on the balcony of the second floor, his gaze cold as winter frost, responded flatly. “If you can’t watch your mouth, go learn some discipline somewhere else.”

Daniel’s voice wavered. T’m sorry. I really am. You can punishine however you want but please don’t let my grandfather come down on me,”

Levi’s words cut through Daniel’s pleas like a blade. “Make up for your mistakes.”

Without waiting for a response, Levi turned and walked back inside, leaving Daniel to deal with the butler who promptly. escorted him off the premises.

Despite being the prestigious heir to the Smith family, Daniel knew his place within Gordon Manor. Even the butler could treat him with disdain, and Daniel wouldn’t dare complain. After all, his grandfather’s favorite was Levi, and if Levi gave the word, Daniel could be banished to the farthest corners of the world for discipline.

Later that evening, Aurora called Daniel in a desperate attempt to dig up information on Zoey.

But Daniel, already bruised from his own missteps, wasn’t about to fall into another trap. “You’d better stop your scheming, You almost got me screwed today. Oh, and by the way, you’re banned from all our family’s hospitals. Don’t even think about stepping foot in one.”

Aurora, in a fit of rage, hurled her phone across the room, smashing it to pieces. That bitch! What’s the feeding these men? They’re all falling over themselves to protect her. Just because she’s pretty, she thinks she’s worth something. She’s nothing but a plaything with that lowly background of hers.”

But as Aurora’s fury simmered down, a strange sense of familiarity crept into her mind. Something about Zoey’s delicate. features tugged at Aurora’s memory, like a faded photograph just out of focus. She couldn’t quite place it, but there was no mistaking it–Zoey resembled someone. Someone important.

“Where have I seen that face before?” Aurora muttered under he breath, her mind racing. Zoey looked strikingly similar to a certain woman from high society, but no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t recall who it was. The thought nagged at her, making her uneasy.

Meanwhile, Levi was sitting with Isabella, their conversation light and intimate.

“I heard from your assistant that just yesterday, after you brought Zozo to the hospital, someone came looking for trouble with her. Is that true?” Isabella’s voice was gentle but laced with concem.

“Yeah,” Levi said, his expression unchanged. Tve already taken care of it. I kicked her out,”

Isabella’s face softened with affection. “Zozo saved my life. She en lost her eyesight because of it. She’s such a sweet girl You can’t let anyone harm her.

Levi nodded, his reply brief but affirming. “I won’t.”

Just then, a nurse rushed over. “Mr. Gordon, Ms. Miller tried to speak out of the hospital today, but we managed to stop her.

Isabella’s eyes widened in concern as she slapped her hand on the table. “Didn’t I tell you? She’s so kind–hearted, always afraid of burdening us. But honestly. Levi, you’re not getting any younger. Why don’t you just marry her already?”

Levi frowned, clearly taken aback. “What did you just say?”

“I’m serious. All those other girls from fancy families are too calculating, not a single one of them is worthy of you. But Zoza

she’s different. She’s beautiful, sweet, and so understanding.

“Didn’t you say her family treats her terribly, even trying to marry her off to some old cripple? This is your chance to help her and maybe even help yourself.”

Isabella’s eyes glistened with emotion. She had been so touched when she first heard about Zoey’s rough life. She figured such a wonderful girl didn’t deserve that kind of hardship and if Zory could marry into the Gordon family, it would be a blessing for them both.
