Yet the ringing persisted, demanding attention again and again.
Deep furrows formed between Justin’s brows as he continued ignoring it.
Then his screen lit up with a text:“Mr. Pittman, I’m having terrible stomach pains. Could you take me to the hospital?”
Emelia caught the message in her peripheral vision. A sharp pang shot through her chest before she scoffed coldly, “Your darling can’t wait to see you. Don’t keep her waiting.”
“Emmy, I need to handle something. Wait for me at home. I’ll explain everything when I get back!” Justin blurted, already rushing toward the door, not daring to meet her eyes.
Emelia watched as Justin’s figure receded into the distance, her body swaying as if all her strength had been drained.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm the surging emotions inside, yet her eyes still brimmed with unshed tears.
She and Justin had known each other for over a decade, growing from awkward teenagers into adults together. Memories of their shared past flooded her mind. How could she possibly feel nothing?
But now, even their childhood bond seemed fragile against the weight of his betrayal.
In the end, their history couldn’t compete with the allure of someone new.
Turning away, Emelia retreated to her room, pushing aside the hurt as she dialed her brother’s number.
Securing the deal with Joshua was now critical. Since Justin had failed to acquire the land, the Sutton family wouldn’t miss this opportunity.
Though Joshua’s intentions remained unclear, even a fraction of the profits could elevate their family’s status dramatically.
The phone rang endlessly before Rhett Sutton finally answered, his voice barely audible, “Emmy…”
Emelia immediately sensed trouble. “Rhett, what’s wrong?”
“Emmy… Rom 3601, Pines Hotel. Help me…”
