Chapter 18
As the elevator ascended rapidly, every second felt agonizingly slow to Emelia.
When the doors finally opened, the three hurried out and quickly located room 3601 down the hallway.
Before they even reached the door, strange muffled sounds leaked through the gap beneath it.
Emelia’s eyes widened at the noises, terrible possibilities flashing through her mind.
Without thinking, she rushed to the door and pounded on it with her hand.“Rhett, it’s Emmy!” she called out, her voice breaking.“Are you in there? Open
the door!”
She kept knocking and shouting but received no response. The muffled sounds grew more frequent, each thud increasing her anxiety.
Seeing Emelia’s red–rimmed eyes and near–hysterical state, Joshua felt a pang of concern. He stepped forward and gently pulled her behind him.“Stay calm,” he comforted.
Then he pivoted slightly and delivered a powerful kick with his long leg, sending the locked door crashing open.
The eerie, suggestive scene hit them like a wave.
The dim lighting illuminated several women clustered around Rhett.
Some had partially removed clothing and glazed expressions as they pressed against him.
Others were struggling to climb onto his body.
Rhett’s face was unnaturally flushed, his forehead dripping with sweat that soaked his hair.
He slumped weakly against the couch, clearly drugged.
“Rhett!” Emelia screamed in anguish. She tried to rush forward, but Joshua swiftly caught her arm.
Though Emelia and Rhett were siblings, she shouldn’t get near him now as a woman.
In Rhett’s current disgraceful state, if she were to see something she shouldn’t, it would scar them both.
“Reynold, secure these women first. Ensure none of them escape. Then get Mr. Sutton into the bathtub and fill it with cold water to help him sober up!” Joshua quickly calmed down, scanned the room, and instructed decisively.
By observing Rhett’s condition and the women’s expressions and movements, Joshua had silently pieced together the truth, concluding that Rhett had fallen victim to a malicious setup.
