Chapter 19
The three women huddled together in the corner of the room, their bodies trembling slightly with fear and despair evident in their eyes.
Their lips quivered as they murmured, as if pleading for mercy or dreading the terrible consequences that awaited them.
Emelia was too concerned about Rhett to pay attention to the three women.
The sound of running water from the bathroom was exceptionally clear in the silent and tense atmosphere.
Then, Rhett’s agonized scream pierced through the air, leaving Emelia heartbroken.
Standing outside, Emelia clenched her hands together tightly, her brows furrowed as she stared fixedly at the bathroom door with worried, anxious eyes.
Seeing Emelia’s distress, Joshua approached and said softly, “Don’t worry. Your brother will be fine. Once he’s more coherent, I’ll have Reynold take him to the hospital immediately. Right now, you should think carefully if Rhett or the Sutton family has made any enemies recently.”
The question sent Emelia’s thoughts racing.
Rhett had always been cautious in his dealings, careful never to push people too far.
Their parents had retired from the company years ago and were currently enjoying their travels abroad, making it impossible for them to have business conflicts back home.
Emelia racked her brain but couldn’t think of anyone Rhett had offended who would want to harm him so maliciously.
Ten minutes later, Joshua’s men arrived swiftly.
Without hesitation, they grabbed the three cowering women and dragged them up.
The women screamed and struggled in terror, but the black–suited men remained impassive as they hauled them out of the room.
If they wanted to get to the bottom of this, interrogating these women would be their best lead.
Meanwhile, the commotion in the bathroom gradually quieted down.
At least, Rhett’s heart–wrenching scream had finally stopped.
Emelia’s anxiety eased slightly.
