Now she seemed fragile, like an injured bird huddled in a corner, helplessly tending its wounds.
Joshua picked up a box of tissues and gently offered it to Emelia. “The business world is a battlefield,” he said in a low, soothing voice.“After going through this, your brother will be mentally prepared for similar situations. You shouldn’t worry too much.”
As he spoke, he reflected on how common such schemes and power struggles were in business circles. Some people would truly stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
At least in this case, Rhett hadn’t suffered any serious physical harm. It was a small mercy in this unfortunate situation.
‘I’m sorry for troubling you,” Emelia said, lifting her head to look at Joshua with red, swollen eyes, her voice thick with emotion.
She felt terrible. If she hadn’t stopped Joshua at the entrance, he wouldn’t have gotten dragged into this mess.
“Don’t mention it. I’d just arrived anyway with nothing urgent to do. It’s my pleasure to help you.”
Joshua shook his head slightly with a faint smile. His tone remained light, as if this were just some trivial matter.
However, Emelia’s hair just drifted onto his face.
“Do you wear Jo Malone’s Amber & Lavender, Ms. Sutton?”
“Mr. Anderson, you show such concern for every woman?”
Joshua raised his hand to prop against the wall beside her ear, a suggestive smile crossing his face.“So far, the only woman I’ve taken the initiative to care about is you, Ms. Sutton.
“I wonder if you have considered my previous proposal? Will you marry me?”
The man’s face was inches away.
Emelia’s mind flashed back to the day he’d asked her to divorce and marry him, causing her heart to race.
Her face flushed bright red.
She quickly broke free from the man.“I… I need some air.”
