engagement announcement wouldn’t involve any of them. There was no reason for them to be here.
Chapter 4
But my assistant only shook his head frantically, as if to say, *I have no idea–they came on their own.*
1 let out a weary sigh, deciding to pretend I hadn’t seen anything at all.-
Meanwhile, the guests downstairs were even more enthusiastic than I was, swarming around the three of them, eager to greet them.
“Mr. Lennox, you’re truly a rising star. That project you landed last month must have brought in at least a million, right? No wonder Ms. Sinclair only has eyes for you.“\
But I was the one who secured that deal–Grant had merely shown up to sign the paperwork.
“Mr. Prescott might have a fiery temperament, but he’s a man of principle. Ms. Sinclair will never be mistreated if she chooses you.“>
I nearly laughed out loud. Of all people, Decker was the one who’d tormented me the most. If he could, he’d have burned me at the stake right here and now.
“And Mr. Monroe–such a gentleman. Ms. Sinclair would be lucky to pick you as well. Please, do take care of us in the future.“}
The three of them acted as if it were their own birthday party, moving effortlessly through the crowd, basking in attention.
I frowned, ready to put an end to this farce, but before I could move, all three of them suddenly lowered their heads and pulled out their phones.
didn’t even have time to react.
Decker’s face went pale first. He strode over and slapped me across the face.
The blow left my head spinning–I nearly stumbled to the floor.
Everyone around us froze, shocked by what they’d just seen, and quickly backed away, unwilling to get involved.§
Grant’s hands clenched into fists as he stepped in to block Decker from hitting me again. He turned, glaring at me through gritted teeth. “We’re already being paraded around like merchandise for you to choose from. What more do you want?“}
“Are you really going to drive Cassidy to her grave?“>
I was at a loss, but Carver just sneered when he

“You waited until we weren’t with Cassidy and dared to have someone kidnap her? I’m telling you now–you’ll never get away with it!“}]
The moment he spoke, I realized Cassidy was up to her tricks again. G.

The guests here were either my father’s friends or business partners. And yet, after I was slapped in front of everyone, not a single person stepped in.
A chill ran through rne. Clearly, they’d all decided the Sinclair estate would never end up in my hands–no one wanted to risk upsetting these three.}

lost her innocence, and you’re upset over a little slap?”
“Boo–hoo-”
Cassidy burst through the door in tears, her dress torn and tattered, looking every inch the damsel in distress.
Grant immediately shrugged off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders, then turned to me with obvious disgust.
“You’re as manipulative as ever. There’s no way I’d ever marry someone like you!”
Carver, usually the quiet one, stepped in front of Cassidy, his face ice–cold.
“Your mother couldn’t give birth to a son to inherit the estate, so she brought the three of us in as tools. We’ve accepted our fate, but apparently, you’re still not satisfied.”
“If that’s how it is, there’s no point pretending there’s peace between us anymore.”
He turned on his heel and strode out, not caring one bit for the Sinclair family’s reputation.
Before leaving, Grant tossed out one last line: “I’ll marry you, but only as a trophy wife. If you want me to protect the Sinclair fortune, you’d better learn your place.”
I laughed. Had they forgotten? Without me, the Sinclairs would never have taken them in to begin with.
As the three of them made for the door, someone finally tried to stop them.
But I barked, my expression icy, “Let them go!”
Cassidy shot me a triumphant look, as if she’d just conquered the world.
I stood there in silence until my assistant, wringing his hands, whispered anxiously, “What do we do now? All three of them are gone–s0 who will you choose?“}
The other guests exchanged uneasy glances, their brows furrowed in concern.
