Chapter 10
Soon enough, a group of socialites, led by Yolanda, approached Hannah with mocking laughter. When Hannah looked up again, she found herself surrounded by a crowd,
Yolanda grinned at her. “Hannah, what does it matter that you’ve been married to my brother all these years? You’re still just standing here watching him and Anna being all lovey–dovey.
I told you long ago, my brother’s heart belongs to Anna. Being with you is just a way for him to heal his broken heart. You should’ve taken the hint and left ages ago. How can you cling onto him with such shamelessness?”
Hannah had to hurry back to pack her bags and wasn’t in the mood to engage with them. She turned to leave, but the group only escalated their taunts.
“Dreaming of becoming a princess, are we?”
“If Anna hadn’t gone abroad, do you think someone like you could ever become Mrs. Cole?”
“You should know your place.”
“Take my advice, if you have any sense, you’d step down and leave the Cole family on your own.”
They jeered as they shoved her around.
“Cat got your tongue?”
“We’re talking to you, aren’t you listening?”
When Hannah remained silent, one of the more hot–tempered women lost her patience and gave her a hard
shove.
With an ear–splitting sound, Hannah was sent sprawling into a towering stack of champagne glasses behind her, the delicate flutes shattering on impact. The mix of white wine and red blood created a shocking sight.
Immediately, every eye in the room was on her. On stage, Zachary’s pupils contracted fiercely. He quickly let go of Anna’s hand and rushed over.
Seeing Hannah lying on the floor, bloodied and hurt, he was filled with anger. He knelt and cradled her in his arms, calling for a private doctor while glaring coldly at the onlookers.
“Who did this?!”
The crowd remained silent, too frightened to speak. His face darkened venomously, and just as he was about to speak again, a bodyguard hurried over.
“Mr. Cole, Ms. Foster’s belly is suddenly in a lot of pain, you need to check on her right away!”
Zachary didn’t loosen his hold on Hannah, only furrowing his brows slightly.
“Is it serious?”
The bodyguard looked anxious. “Ms. Foster is in tears from the pain.”
Now it was Zachary’s turn to hesitate. He looked at Hannah in his arms, a flicker of indecision crossing his face.
“Hannah, I…”
Hannah understood what he was about to say and struggled to sit up, her expression calm.
“Yeah, I know. She’s been pampered since childhood, cries over the smallest injuries, and you’re used to taking care of her.”
She had stolen the words right from him, and while his lips moved, no words came out.
Hannah, already unsteadily on her feet, continued, “It’s fine, go be with her. The doctor can attend to her first. I

can handle myself.”
For some reason, seeing her so indifferent made him inexplicably uneasy. She’d always been so magnanimous. But today, despite her severe injuries, her magnanimity was way too much. So much so that he was no longer
in her eyes.
This wasn’t like her; she used to be all about him. When had she changed?
Zachary started to speak again, but Anna’s cries of pain echoed from a distance. Finally, he hesitated no more, looking at Hannah with guilt. “Hannah, I’ll come back for you later, and I’ll make it up to you.”
With that, he hurriedly left her.
Watching him rush to comfort Anna, carrying her out with tender words, Hannah let out a bitter laugh. But to Yolanda and her friends, it looked like she was simply heartbroken from being abandoned.
“Hmph, I thought acting like that might earn my brother’s pity, but in the end, he still left you.”
