Chapter

Eliza had end up being a walking blood bank for Margot, donating to her countless times throughout her life. Yet, when Eliza found herself on the brink of life and death, not a soul was willing to use Margot’s blood to save her. And to top it all off, the accident that landed her in this mess was all Margot’s fault

She had thought she’d seen through everyone’s facades and that their hurtful actions wouldn’t get to her anymore. But right now, hearing their heartless remarks was like being pierced by a thousand arrows. The intense pain overwhelmed her, and she blacked out completely

When she came to again, it was three days later. This time, she was more drained than ever before. The first person she saw when she opened her eyes was Aiden. He seemed to have been by her side for ages, looking at bit worn out himself

When he saw her awake, his usually stern face softened into a slight smile, Eliza, you’re awake. Are you hurting anywhere? Do you feel like eating something? The doctor said you lost a lot of blood and need to rest up well. Just tell me what you’d like to have, alright?”

His concern seemed so genuine, as if he wasn’t the same guy who had coldly stopped Margot from donating blood to her. If she hadn’t heard his words with her own ears, she might have been swept away by his seemingly tender and caring demeanor

After Aiden left, Eliza couldn’t resist asking the nurse attending to her, Who ended up giving me blood?”

The nurse sighed, pausing for a moment before replying, Your family is quite the puzzle. We tried for ages, but they wouldn’t let your sister donate blood

Luckily, we’ve got a blood type registry at the hospital. We managed to call in a doctor who was on vacation but had the same rare blood type, and they rushed over to save you.”

The nurse looked at her with curiosity. Are you adopted by their family? Is the guy who was just here looking after you your brotherinlaw?”

Eliza was taken aback, letting out a bitter chuckle until a silent tear rolled down her cheek. During her hospital stay, Greg and Thea hadn’t visited her even once; only Aiden had been there. Eliza knew that by acting as he did, he hoped she would stay devoted to him and willingly continue being Margot’s personal blood supply. Still, he couldn’t even put on a convincing act

While at the hospital, he was perpetually distractedeither on the phone in the hallway or smiling faintly at his screen. She knew it was Margot on the other end. Only when dealing with Margot did he smile like that

On the day she was discharged, he showed up as promised to take her home. But as they stood at the hospital entrance, he got a call, and his expression changed in an instant. Usually composed, his face now clearly showed anger. His fingers tightened around his phone, turning slightly white as he fought to keep his emotions in check

Eliza, something urgent came up at work. Could you grab a cab home?”

Eliza nodded calmly, graciously telling him to go handle work and not worry about her. Aiden seemed relieved as he got in his car and sped off

Watching his car fade from view, Eliza smirked. She knew exactly why Aiden was upset and where he was rushing off to. Just moments earlier, Margot had posted a photo with a handsome guy on social media. The caption read: [A cute guy asked for my number. Should I give it to him?

Margot knew just how to drive a guy crazy. In the past, Eliza might have been jealous. But not anymore. She had her own priorities now. Closing her phone, she hailed a cab straight to the police station
