Chapter 10
Another week passed.
Still, there was no news from Daniel.
I was growing impatient and decided to talk to him.
When I arrived at his company, I felt a bit dazed.
I remembered the time he left a document at home and asked me to bring it to him. Thinking it was urgent, I grabbed a random T–shirt and rushed out.
The security guard stopped me at the entrance. Only then did I notice the shirt had oil stains and read, [Housekeeping.
Services.]
I explained patiently, “I’m Daniel’s wife. This document is very important. Please let me in.”
The guard looked me up and down, then laughed mockingly, “Ladies claiming to be Mr. Scott’s girlfriends are common. But you, a housekeeper, claiming to be his wife? If you said you were a new janitor, that’d be more believable.”
I was angry and about to argue, but he dragged me outside and. threw me out.
The document was scattered everywhere. As I tried to pick it up,

a water truck passed by and soaked all the papers.
I remembered to call Daniel.

He answered with irritation. “Why aren’t you here yet? Do you know how much trouble you’ve caused me?”
I replied with frustration, “The security guards won’t let me in.”
He paused and asked, “Why?”
I hesitated. “I told them I’m your wife, but they didn’t believe.
me.”
He chuckled, “Forget it. Don’t blame them.
“I had my secretary redo the document. Just go home.”
He hung up.
I don’t remember how I got home that day. I only remember crying for a long time.
Now, standing at the company entrance again, the receptionist. recognized me immediately.
She greeted me warmly and led me to the elevator, chatting along the way.
I replied casually and walked straight to Daniel’s office.
When I opened the door, I saw Ivy crying in his arms.

Daniel seemed surprised to see me and quickly pushed her
away.

He said, “Emily, don’t misunderstand. Ivy was upset because a client was difficult.”
I caught the hint of grievance in Ivy’s eyes but ignored it.
I turned to Daniel and said, “Did your legal department dissolve? Why is the property division taking so long?
“If needed, I can bring a lawyer to help.”
He reached out to grab me, but I avoided him.
He asked, “Emily, can’t we give each other another chance?”
I laughed and looked at Ivy. “Why don’t you convince him? If he doesn’t finalize things quickly, how can you take your place?”
To my surprise, she listened.
She moved closer to Daniel and said, “Since Emily doesn’t love you anymore, why not end things peacefully? Look at the people around you.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. I gestured for her to continue.
But Daniel’s sharp voice cut her off. “In the office, address me by my title. I value your work skills, but that doesn’t give you the right to interfere in my personal life.”

Ivy turned pale and ran out.
I clicked my tongue. She wasn’t very tough.
I said, “I’m giving you two options–finalize the property division quickly, or we’ll meet in court.”

Daniel lowered his head and said desperately, “Is there really no chance to save this?”
I stayed silent, waiting for him to continue.
After a moment, he spoke in a hoarse voice. “Alright.”
