Chapter 4
After I mentioned divorce, the biggest reaction came from Ryan.
He didn’t try to stop me but questioned loudly, “You want the house and car but not me?”
I nodded and repeated, “Yes, not you.”
He called someone else “Mom“. He was not my child.
Giving birth to him felt like a waste.
He got furious and spoke without respect. “The ladies at Dad’s. company were right. You’re just a greedy fake. You don’t even want your own kid. You’re nothing compared to Ms. Hughes.
“I don’t want you as my mom anymore. Ms. Hughes is prettier and kinder, and everyone likes her. Nobody likes you.”
Daniel quickly scolded him, “Ryan, stop talking nonsense.”
I looked at Ryan with mixed feelings. Over the past two years, I noticed he was at a sensitive age.
He craved attention and approval but didn’t get it from me.
So, he mimicked Daniel’s attitude toward me, gaining Daniel’s approval.

Their bond grew stronger, and others fawned over him because of Daniel.
This satisfied him. It also made him habitually target and despise me.
I didn’t argue. Someday, he would learn that flattery brought only hollow satisfaction.
No one truly cared about him, not even his father.
Once divorced, Daniel would likely remarry, have a new family, and cherish their child.
Ryan would just be a leftover piece from our broken marriage.
I emailed the rushed divorce agreement from my lawyer to Daniel.
I said, “I want half of our marital property. As for Ryan’s child support, you’re not short on money.”
Daniel looked at me and said, “Over the years, you didn’t work. All our income came from me.”
I interrupted him, “If not for my brother’s kidney, you’d be dead. I deserve this.”
Ryan swung his fists at me, shouting. “That’s Dad’s money. How dare you take it? Get out of my house.”
I was annoyed and pushed him aside.

He stumbled and fell to the ground, crying loudly.
In the past, I would’ve panicked if he got hurt.
But now, I only felt irritation at the noise.
I turned to Daniel and questioned him, “You’ve always hated this marriage. Now you have the chance to end it. Why aren’t you signing?”
Daniel shook his head. “I’m just surprised you’re giving up Ryan. After all, you have no other family left, do you?”
His words injured me.
It was true. I had no one else.

The day after my wedding to Daniel, my mother jumped to her death.
She couldn’t bear losing her husband and son.
She thought she’d found me a good husband.
But seven years proved that Daniel was not a good choice. Born into a loving family, I knew this twisted marriage would never bring love.
Daniel gave me a long look and signed the divorce papers.
I quickly collected them, went to my room, and grabbed my

packed suitcase.
When I stepped out of the house, I felt light and free.
The rain outside had stopped, as if to clear the way for my departure.

Chapter 5
After I left the Scott family, my life became much more relaxed.
I no longer had to fight sleep to pick out clothes for Daniel or wake up early to make breakfast to their taste.
Daniel and Ryan liked simple breakfasts.
I had to eat the same. Once, I was craving something different, so I woke up early and went out to buy a bowl of spicy soup. But Ryan pinched his nose and poured it on the ground.
“This sticky stuff is gross. It’s making me sick,” he said.
The hot soup splashed on my leg, turning it red. Daniel just told. the maid to clean it up and left.
The father and son walked out the door, leaving two untouched breakfasts on the table and the spilled soup on the floor.
After that, I never had spicy soup again.
Now, I sat at a food stall, savoring each bite. Soon, my bowl was.
empty.
I waved to the seller. “Another bowl, please.”
After the second bowl, I finally felt satisfied and let out a burp.

I paid and took a taxi back to the five–star hotel I had booked the night before.
I had left in a hurry a few days ago and didn’t have a place to stay, but that wasn’t a problem because I had enough money
now.
Although the divorce settlement wasn’t finalized, Daniel had given me plenty of money over the years.
This city had nothing left for me, so I didn’t plan to stay long.
Once the paperwork was done, I would probably start traveling around the world.
I didn’t have grand ambitions. The whole “becoming a powerful woman after getting rich” scenario clearly didn’t apply to me.
I had married Daniel before I even graduated from college, and after graduation, I stayed at home to take care of Ryan.
Now that I had no family left, all I could do was live in the moment. I didn’t want to leave any trace in this world, and after a few years, I just wanted to reunite with my family.
As soon as I got to my room, my phone rang.
It was the kindergarten teacher.
“Is this Ryan’s mom? He hasn’t come to school today. Is everything okay?” Joyce asked, sounding a bit worried.
