Chapter 6
“Enough with the drama, just go to bed. I don’t want to argue with you.”
“Don’t think that just because you’re pregnant, I have to indulge your every whim. Are we done here?“}}
After our argument, Zachary became even more brazen, disappearing for days on end. When he did return, there were lipstick marks and scratches on his neck left by another woman.
People around me tried to console me.
“Mr. Harrington has only ever had eyes for you all these years. Now that you’re expecting, it’s understandable he might have… needs.“>
“He’s a man, after all. As long as he comes home, that’s what matters.“}
I had no family to lean on, and ever since I started seeing Zachary, my world revolved around him. I found myself isolated, with no one to confide in. Everyone envied my glamorous life as Mrs. Harrington, but no one condemned Zachary’s infidelity.
Feeling the life growing inside me, I was torn. I couldn’t believe that years of love could be overshadowed by a younger woman. The torment and uncertainty gnawed at me.
In the end, I decided to swallow my pride and reach out to Zachary for reconciliation. But he ignored me as always, until I received a message. I hoped it was a gesture of peace, but it turned out to be a taunt from Lilian, a declaration of war.&
How absurd!!
The passionate love of a young Zachary at twenty, deeply smitten and devoted, couldn’t withstand the allure of the world. At thirty. Zachary was entwined with another woman.
My consciousness started to fade. It felt like ages had passed when suddenly the music outside came to a halt. I vaguely heard someone barging in.
“We’re sorry to interrupt, but we’re the club’s security. We found a piece of clothing with blood on it during our patrol.”
“We need to ensure everyone is safe. Please cooperate with us.“>
The partygoers, tipsy and delirious, shouted excitedly at the guards.§
“Happy New Year!“&
*Officer, you got it wrong! We’re just ringing in the New Year!“}
Timothy, swaying with a bottle in hand, ranted.
“They’re just two lousy guards. Get lost.”
The security guard held up the bloodstained coat and asked, “Is everyone here? Do we need to call the police?“}
Upon seeing the familiar coat, Zachary blurted out, “That’s my wife’s coat. It’s my fault for not spending New Year’s Eve at home with her, and now she’s throwing a fit!“”
Everyone chimed in to criticize me.
“She’s been paranoid ever since she got pregnant. Zachary can hardly step out without her making a fuss.“>
“Good thing the guards picked up the coat. Imagine if someone had called the cops over nothing!”
‘She’s being unreasonable. It’s New Year’s Eve, give the police a break.“@
*Zachary, you need to handle this. A troublesome wife is a burden.”
Feeling intimidated by these influential people yet uneasy about the potential trouble, one guard quietly asked a staff member. “Is there anything going on here?*%
“Not really. Just the big boss’s wife causing a scene. He yelled at her and locked her in the restroom.”
The guard insisted on checking the restroom to ensure my safety. Zachary, furious, kicked the guard.
“What the hell do you want? My wife is just using the bathroom! Get your manager, I want to file a complaint.”
Unable to offend them, the security had no choice but to leave the coat and exit the room.
Soon, the music resumed, and the party was back in full swing outside.
