Series 1
As the day faded into dusk, a torrential downpour drenched Owathe as Wren made her way toward Dream Club, soaked to the bone but somehow managing to keep the dessert she carried untouched by the heavy rain. Upon arriving at the entrance of the secluded room, Wren gently pushed the door open.
“Scarlet, during the three years you disappeared, not once did Alexander stop looking for you. And now, you’re finally back!” Upon hearing that from within the room, Wren froze mid-step. Scarlet? The same Scarlet Reed who had once been Alexander Clark’s partner?
“But hasn’t Alexander already tied the knot?” questioned a soft female voice. “Ah, Scarlet, there’s no need to worry about that woman Alexander wed. Alexander was forced into that marriage by his father, who threatened to harm you if Alexander didn’t marry. Alexander only married her to safeguard you.” “Really?” Scarlet’s doubt was clear. “Absolutely! Why else would Alexander pick someone like Wren? She’s so unattractive and bulky. Plus, she’s an illegitimate child. Marrying her was Alexander’s way of rebelling against his father, getting back at him!” Outside the private room, Wren felt a chill; her complexion drained of color. Recalling the night when Alexander proposed, she remembered how her heart had soared. She had been blissfully ignorant of the bitter truth. She had believed herself incredibly lucky, not realizing she was merely a pawn in a vendetta. It turned out Alexander had married her simply because she was unappealing and heavyset.
Wren couldn’t help but release a bitter laugh, her body swaying slightly. She grasped the door handle to steady herself. “Speaking of Wren, it’s been five hours since she left; it’s doubtful she’ll ever appear. Delight Desserts is way out in the eastern suburbs, and just traveling there and back takes over three hours. Furthermore, that place is notorious for its long lines. Surely, Wren isn’t foolish enough to go there.” “If Alexander asked for it, Wren would go there even if Delight Desserts were in a different city. Everyone knows how deeply she adores Alexander. She’s so pathetic.” Upon hearing these spiteful comments, Wren took a deep breath, masked her expression, and threw open the door to the private room, making her entrance.
