Series 14
“I’ll be there right away,” he said quickly before ending the call.
“Alexander!” Wren swiftly caught his arm, stopping him from leaving.
With a firm gaze, she said, “I don’t care what has come up, but we need to finalize the divorce today!”
Wren believed that from Alexander’s concerned expression, the person who had called him must have been Scarlet.
Alexander replied in a deep voice, “It’s my father. He’s been taken to the hospital.”
Wren’s face immediately adopted a serious expression.
She rose swiftly, saying, “I’m coming with you!”
Without a word, Alexander turned and walked toward the exit.
Inside the VIP ward at Grand Plains General Hospital…
“Mom!” Alexander exclaimed as he entered the room. “How’s Father?”
“He was fine until he received a phone call that upset him greatly, triggering an asthma attack,” Daisy Clark explained.
Only after she had said that did she notice Wren, who had followed Alexander into the ward.
Daisy looked at Wren, puzzled at first, but then, her eyes widened in recognition and astonishment. “Wren? My goodness! What have you been through these three years to transform so drastically?”
Wren was recognizable to Daisy by her distinct facial features.
Before, even though Wren had been heavier and had a noticeable dark spot on her face, her features had always been distinct and beautiful.
“Daisy,” Wren said with a steady voice, greeting Daisy.
Just then, Oscar stirred in his bed.
Daisy quickly turned towards him, visibly relieved to see him awake but still slightly concerned. “Oh, you gave me quite a fright!”
As Oscar’s eyes settled on Alexander, his expression soured. “Alexander, did you really go through with the divorce from Wren?”
The day after Wren had returned to the country, she had reached out to Oscar.
But Oscar had been shocked to learn the next day about Alexander and Wren’s pending courthouse visit for the divorce.
At Oscar’s questioning, Alexander’s expression tightened, and he shot a look at Wren before letting out a cold laugh.
“Oscar.” Wren stepped closer to the bedside.
Oscar had aged significantly in the past three years.
Now well into his seventies, Oscar was much older than his wife, who was in her early fifties. Alexander, their only child together, had been born many years after Oscar’s two children from a previous marriage.
Upon seeing Wren, Oscar blinked, a mix of surprise and recognition in his eyes. “Wren, is that really you?”
Wren simply nodded in confirmation.
Oscar’s face brightened with a relieved smile. “Ah, so this is your true appearance, my dear!”
He then shot Alexander a stern look before turning to Wren again. “Wren, you have my full support here. I will not let Alexander divorce you.”
Wren responded earnestly, “Our decision to divorce is mutual and carefully considered by both Alexander and me. You must understand that—”
“What?” Oscar’s response was immediate, his breathing quickening in distress. “No, I cannot accept that!”
Daisy reacted with alarm and quickly intervened to calm him, saying, “Calm down, Oscar! It’s okay; they won’t get a divorce. Don’t worry.”
She then shot a pointed look toward Alexander and Wren. “Leave this room, both of you, now!”
Given Oscar’s fragile state, Alexander and Wren didn’t dare say anything more. They silently acknowledged Daisy’s command and left the room.
Once outside, Alexander stopped abruptly and turned to face Wren with a cold look. “Are you playing games with me, Wren?”
