Series 23
It’s baffling to think someone would target a child that way. It could not possibly have been your mother, right?”
Wren gave Lily a look of resignation.
Lily quickly smiled, trying to lighten the mood. “I was just joking. It couldn’t have been Holley. I know she adores you.”
It was true. Holley loved Wren deeply, but she was also meek and compliant to Jack, always regarding him as the ultimate authority. Whenever Jack punished Wren, Holley’s only recourse was to weep and plead on Wren’s behalf.
Lily’s tone shifted to one of seriousness, saying, “Unraveling something buried for over two decades won’t be easy, but there are always traces left behind. We’ll find the truth eventually.”
“I understand,” Wren responded, her voice steady.
Then, shifting the topic, Lily asked, “So, are you truly going through with the divorce from Alexander?”
Wren scoffed at the mention of Alexander’s name, her face showing detachment. “Alexander and I have been over for three years.”
Lily sighed and replied, “It’s probably for the best. Being with Alexander brought you more pain than happiness. A marriage that only brings loneliness isn’t worth holding onto. Look at you now—you are stunning and can choose anyone you like. You don’t have to linger over someone like Alexander, right?”
“You’re absolutely right. Let’s toast to that,” Wren said, raising her glass with a bright smile.
After enjoying their drinks, they hit the dance floor.
Wren and Lily immediately caught everyone’s attention with their beauty.
At first, others danced around them, but it wasn’t long before they owned the floor.
Wren was particularly eye-catching, her elegance and smooth movements drawing admiring glances. Every gesture she made, from tossing her hair to swaying her hips, held the crowd spellbound.
Alexander watched the scene, his face darkening as he observed Wren dance like that.
Did this woman no longer remember she was still legally his wife?
