Series 24
Scarlet noticed Alexander’s fixed gaze on Wren and felt a twinge of jealousy.
Why did Alexander care about that woman so much?
She thought Alexander hadn’t known that woman before.
Just as Scarlet was about to draw Alexander’s attention away, she saw Wren heading towards the restroom.
Without a second thought, Scarlet rose and went to the restroom as well.
Wren went to the balcony near the restroom to answer her phone.
“Hello,” she said.
It was Oscar on the other end of the line.
“Wren, do you have time to come back to the mansion?” Oscar’s voice came through.
Surprised, Wren responded, “You have already been discharged from the hospital?”
She had seen Oscar in the hospital earlier today and hadn’t expected him to be home so soon.
“Yes, I was allowed to leave. Staying in the hospital was getting too uncomfortable for me,” Oscar replied.
“Okay, I’ll come over now,” Wren quickly said.
“Okay,” Oscar answered.
Ending the call, Wren left the balcony and was about to head back when she encountered Scarlet.
Wren stopped short.
Her interactions with Scarlet had actually been infrequent.
Lily’s father was an old family friend of Oscar’s, and Wren often visited the Clark family with Lily and Freya. During those visits, Wren had sometimes seen Scarlet, who had been dating Alexander at the time.
However, Oscar’s dislike for Scarlet meant Alexander eventually stopped bringing her home.
Wren vividly remembered the incident with Scarlet three years ago at the Dream Club when she had endured the rain to purchase a cake for Alexander. But it had turned out that Alexander had asked for the cake because Scarlet had wanted it. The cake had eventually been thrown into the trash bin.
It was on that day that Wren had realized the truth about her dreamlike marriage—a sacrifice Alexander had made for Scarlet.
Even though three years had passed, seeing Scarlet again still stirred something in Wren.
Taking a deep breath, Wren averted her eyes and was about to walk away when Scarlet spoke up.
“Ms. Sophia,” Scarlet called out suddenly.
Wren stopped in her tracks, realizing that Scarlet was calling her.
It dawned on her that Scarlet didn’t recognize her.
It made sense—after all, even Theo had failed to recognize her before at the banquet, and Scarlet was much less familiar with her than Theo.
“Can we talk?” Scarlet asked.
Wren responded with a slight smile, “Of course.”
Curiosity piqued, Wren was interested in what Scarlet wanted to say to her while she didn’t know her true identity.
They moved together to the balcony.
