Moreover, she had planned to discuss her impending divorce from Alexander with Oscar the following day, meaning her return to the Clark family home would be brief.
At her words, Oscar’s demeanor transformed as he beamed and then turned to gauge Alexander’s reaction.
Alexander’s brow furrowed. He was clearly displeased by the turn of events.
Oscar’s tone became serious. “Is it really so burdensome for you to spend time with an old man like me?”
“Alexander, just say yes. Mom’s missing you, too,” Daisy chimed in, giving Alexander a meaningful look.
Facing Oscar, Alexander seemed to have thought of something and eventually gave in.
Oscar’s face brightened immensely. “Excellent! George has already prepared your room. It’s getting late; perhaps you should rest for the night.”
When he went to the bedroom, Alexander scowled at the one large bed dominating the space.
Wren, maintaining her composure, headed straight for the bathroom to shower without a word.
The butler, George Todd, had arranged everything meticulously, from fresh clothes to toiletries.
After her shower, Wren slipped into her loungewear and settled into bed.
Alexander exited the other bathroom and, seeing Wren in bed, scoffed, “Wren, me sharing this bed with you is out of the question. You might as well forget about the idea now.”
Wren couldn’t help but roll her eyes in response. “As if I’d ever want to share a bed with you—I’d probably end up with nightmares.”
Wren made her intentions clear with conviction, saying, “I’ll be sleeping in the bed, and you can use the sofa.”
Alexander frowned. “The sofa, really?”
With a taunting smile, Wren said, “Mr. Clark, isn’t it time you showed some gentlemanly behavior?”
“Gentlemanly behavior? That’s not exactly my style,” Alexander scoffed as he moved closer to Wren.
In a swift motion, he grabbed Wren by the arm, lifted her from the bed, and threw her over his shoulder.
His actions were so swift that Wren had no time to react.
“Alexander! You bastard! What are you doing? Stop this right now!” Wren yelled, pounding on Alexander’s back as she struggled.
Alexander walked a few steps quickly and dropped Wren onto the sofa without any gentleness.
He glanced at Wren with indifference and then made himself comfortable on the bed.
Seething with anger, Wren gritted her teeth.
Determined to get back at Alexander, she sprang from the sofa, sprinted back to the bed, and forcefully kicked Alexander in the back.
