Series 3
In a cold tone, he said, “The divorce papers are on the coffee table at home. Sign them when you return.””Divorce papers?” The color drained from Wren’s face as she stared at Alexander, her lips trembling.
Alexander’s expression remained neutral. “I wed you only to satisfy my father and to protect Scarlet. Now that she’s back, I can ensure her safety.”
Wren understood the hidden meaning in his words.
Their marriage had been a mere tactical decision. With his goal now accomplished, Alexander saw no further need for her, a wife who had only caused him humiliation.
Reflecting on this, Wren suddenly smiled. But her smile carried a sense of resignation and bitter irony.
She looked up at Alexander, her eyes filled with sorrow, yet still holding on to a glimmer of hope. “Alexander, in all the time we spent together, was I truly nothing more than just a convenient instrument for you?”
Laughter rang out from those around Wren, sharp and mocking. “Is Wren out of her mind? Does she honestly think Alexander could have any feelings for her?”
“Can’t she see herself? She’s so unattractive!”
Ignoring the harsh remarks, Wren kept her gaze fixed on Alexander. Her determination for an answer was clear.
In a cold voice, Alexander answered, “Yes.”
Tears immediately welled up in Wren’s eyes.
At that moment, it felt as though her heart had been torn out, discarded on the ground, and cruelly crushed.
The agony consumed her.
A hollow laugh escaped from Wren, thick with despair. “I see,” she murmured.
She nodded slowly, resigned to her fate. “I’ll sign the divorce papers when I return home.”
“See you tomorrow at ten at the courthouse,” Alexander said indifferently. He then turned and resumed his seat on the sofa.
Wren’s steps were heavy as she moved toward the door to leave.
Just then, Scarlet’s soft voice floated over. “Alexander, I’m too full. Should I toss this cake?”
Upon hearing that, Wren froze.
“Of course,” Alexander replied.
Hearing his response, Wren closed her eyes, letting her tears blend with the rain on her face.
She quickly left the room and made her way back to Reverie Villa, the home she had shared with Alexander.
