Series 34
If she could, she would have rushed to finalize the divorce immediately, severing their ties completely.
She hoped that by severing all connections with Alexander, she might finally free herself from letting Alexander affect her emotions.
Despite her outward indifference, Wren was anything but calm.
Just then, the sudden ringing of the phone interrupted Wren’s thoughts.
Glancing at the caller ID, her eyes showed a flicker of emotion as she answered, “Mom.”
“Wren, could you visit home now? I miss you,” came Edith’s weak, pitiful voice.
“Sure, I’ll come over now,” Wren responded without hesitation.
Joy radiated from Edith’s voice. “That’s wonderful! I’ll prepare your favorite dishes for lunch.”
After ending the call, Wren departed from the Clark family estate and made her way to Vera Villas.
Her father had purchased Vera Villas for her mother.
Edith’s face lit up with joy upon Wren’s arrival.
She eagerly ushered Wren to the sofa, her expression a mix of happiness and relief. “Wren, you look so beautiful now, and this fills me with joy. However, why didn’t you inform me about your transformation in advance?” Her voice dipped into melancholy.
Wren chose to remain quiet.
The truth was, she had only managed to achieve her current slim figure three months ago.
Back when she had first moved overseas, she used to call Edith daily. During these calls, Edith often pleaded with her to come back home or lamented how Jack was discontent with her departure.
What was worse, Edith had frequently pressed her to apologize to Freya.
Gradually, these conversations had made Wren reluctant to keep in touch with Edith.
Additionally, her hectic schedule set by her mentor and his wife overseas had barely left her time to ponder these familial strains.
Edith, observing Wren’s silence, seemed to have realized something, her eyes quickly turning red.
