Series 36
Indeed, because Wren had stood her ground, refusing to confess to stealing the necklace or pushing Freya, Jack had brutally beaten her with the brassie, leaving her bruised.
Despite the physical pain, she had never conceded to the accusations, resulting in Jack banishing her from the Wright family’s home.
On the day she had departed, the injuries on her back had been severe.
That evening, those wounds had worsened, leading her to have a high fever.
This incident had made her completely lose her hope in Jack.
Reflecting on those moments, Wren felt a resurgence of emotions.
She composed herself, looked Lily in the eye, and said resolutely, “Why should I apologize for something I didn’t do? Admitting fault would mean acknowledging that I did those things. I’d rather endure physical pain than betray my principles.”
Lily’s eyes were filled with tears, her voice breaking as she said, “I didn’t see the bigger picture. I just wanted to shield you from further harm.”
As tears rolled down her cheeks, Lily looked truly pitiful. “I’m sorry, Wren. I was weak, and I didn’t protect you well—it’s all my fault!”
Tears streamed down her cheeks as Lily slapped herself in distress.
Wren felt resigned upon seeing this.
With a sigh, she extended her hand to clasp Lily’s, offering gentle reassurance, “It’s okay, Mom. I’ve forgiven you long ago. There’s no need for you to blame yourself now.”
Lily gazed at Wren, her eyes brimming with hope. “Is that true? You’ve really forgiven me?”
“Yes,” Wren said, dabbing at Lily’s tears with a tissue.
A smile then broke through Lily’s tearful face.
After a moment’s reflection, Lily’s expression became thoughtful. “Wren, could it be… Do you think Lily might be behind the hormonal issues?”
Wren stared back in disbelief. “Mom, why would you suspect that? I’ve struggled with my weight since childhood. If hormones were the cause, wouldn’t that imply someone has been tampering with them since I was little? Lily was unaware of my existence back then. How could she have been behind the matter?”
However, Lily raised her voice, her conviction clear. “Why couldn’t she? You reconnected with the Wright family at seventeen, but that doesn’t mean Lily only found out about your existence then! She could have found out about it before that.
