Series 4
On the coffee table lay the divorce papers, just as Alexander had said.
Wren scanned the documents, noting the settlement terms. After the divorce, she would receive three hundred million dollars and two luxurious properties.
Despite using her, Alexander had ensured she wouldn’t leave empty-handed.
Three years of marriage now amounted to three hundred million and two houses – wasn’t that a form of compensation?
With a bitter smile, Wren signed the divorce papers.
At that moment, a tear splashed onto the document; she hurriedly dabbed at it and looked up, trying to hold back any more tears.
Her phone buzzed with a new message.
It was from her mentor.
“Wren, have you made your decision? Don’t miss out on the opportunity to study abroad – it’s an incredible chance. You’ll regret it if you don’t take it!”
Wren looked at the message, her resolve hardening as she replied, “I’ve decided. I’m going abroad to study.”
For weeks, Wren had been uncertain about accepting the offer to study abroad.
Now, clarity had arrived.
She would take the leap.
It was time for her to start fresh. She wanted a life that was truly hers.
After replying, she slipped her phone into her pocket and began packing.
Though the rain from the previous day had left her feverish, she forced herself, fever and all, to the courthouse by ten the next morning.
However, even after the clock passed eleven, Alexander still hadn’t shown up.
Wren decided to call him.
Scarlet’s voice greeted her as soon as the call connected. “Alexander, can you assist me here…”
Then, Alexander’s voice came through. “I’m busy right now. We’ll reschedule the courthouse appointment.”
With that, he abruptly ended the call.
Wren stared at her phone as the call disconnected. A lump formed in her throat.
With a heavy heart, she typed a final message to Alexander. Then, she removed her SIM card and tossed it into the nearest trash bin.
She tucked her phone into her pocket and walked away without a glance behind her.
Today wasn’t just any day – it was the day she was leaving for Chixdon.
