Chapter 11
Aquamarine’s POV
As we rode I could not stop the queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. My throat burned, and my mouth was bitter. My body was starting to ache and I could see little black spots dancing in front of me.
It was already high noon but we hadn’t even gotten to his pack yet, even though we traveled through the night.
I stared at my trembling hands. “What’s happening to me?” I muttered, and then my stomach made a very disturbing sound. I needed distraction from the burning sensation I was feeling inside.
I looked up at Alexander and cleared my throat. “Lycan Alexander?” I said, “What was that thing that attacked us?”
I waited for him to talk, but he didn’t.
The vines and the face?” I asked again, but he avoided the questions.
Alexander’s jaw clenched, and he still didn’t look at me. “Levi! Lead us somewhere with fewer trees!”
I noticed other horses riding far away from him, or were they slowly drifting?
Why? Did they perhaps feel the heat too? Or is this the way they showed respect towards their Alpha?
The closest was Beta Levi, but as I glanced at him, his eyes looked away from me.
Like I caught him stealing something he should not have.
I looked at Katherine, who was now fully awake but was shivering in fear.
My heart ached for her.
She must have recognized Lycan Alexander by now. But how will she react when I tell her that she’ll be in his pack from this point?
What will she do when I tell her that he’s my mate and I promised him an heir?
I need to calm Katherine one way or the other before she passes out again.
I turned to Levi. “B—”
“Don’t even think about it,” Alexander sneered, cutting me off. “You don’t get to command my men,” he spat.
“I just-
“Don’t think for one moment that things will go your way because you managed to ma-,” he growled, and he stopped midway. He took
a deep breath and released a hot, shaky one that made the back of my skin prickle with heat.
I nervously moistened my lips and darted my gaze elsewhere as I remembered the things I had done to him before,
I foolishly threw hot food on him and I even bit him!
What was I even thinking?! I know for a fact that he has been cursing me mentally since then.
I tried to wriggle from his grip, but it only made him pull me closer to him. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as I felt his body tense and heat up.
“You better pray there is still time to change things, or else I’ll kill you.”
Change things? Kill me?
I swallowed hard and shivered. The courage I had a few hours ago seemed to have been replaced by something else.
Then the horse slowed down
“Do you hear that?” he asked
I listened, but all I could hear were the horses‘ restless neighs and snorts. “Hear what?” I asked, looking around

Then, out of nowhere, I heard the sound of snapping branches as vines shot out from the trees.
Alexander’s arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me close. “Hold on!” he growled and hit the horse to go faster.
Hold on to what exactly?! The horse?!
Not knowing what to do, I held on to the horse’s mane.
I felt his chest pressed against my back, his arms literally squeezed my waist as if I would fly off anytime due to the impact of the vines on the earth.
The vines. They were back.
Just like before, they were hitting the ground with full force.
Katherine’s scream rang in my ears as the horses galloped forward. Swaying to the left and right, to avoid the thick thorny branches.
But all the movements made my head and stomach spin. The world tilted dangerously, and I clenched
nausea.

“What-“I gasped, struggling to speak through the pain. What did Alexander do to anger whatever was causing this?
How would we even get out of here? There was no bonfire like the last time, and we were obviously no match for the monster.
Up ahead, something came into view. Like a sharp pointy thing with cloth attached to it.
Suddenly, Alexander howled, a big mighty howl that sent goosebumps across my body. The sound reverberated through the forest, so powerful that I could feel it in my bones. My skin tingled with an unfamiliar energy, and I realized with a start that I could feel his power flowing through me.
Is this what being mated means?
From the edge of the forest, shapes emerged–beasts, dozens of them, responding to Alexander’s call. They moved in perfect formation, flanking our horses, guarding us.
Suddenly, a big round ball with purple smoke flew towards us.
Lots of them.
I felt a swoosh of air against my face. But it didn’t burn.
It felt… cool.
It started hitting the vines, burning them.
“Magic?” I whispered, awestruck as I watched the purple smoke dissolve the vines like acid. I turned to look at Alexander, questions burning in my mind, but his eyes were focused only on the path ahead.
The pain in my body intensified, and I slumped forward slightly.
“Stay awake,” Alexander commanded. “We’re almost there.”
I nodded weakly, forcing my eyes to remain open despite the darkness that threatened to overtake me. Through blurry vision, I could make out massive walls in the distance, towering over the tree line.
“Theriakon Pack,” Alexander announced, and I felt a tiny tingle in my chest.
He said it the way my father used to praise Fiona for anything she did.
A proud father to his daughter.
A proud Alpha to his pack.
As we approached the gates, all I could hear were sounds that made my heart pound. I looked up at the walls, where people were cheering and waving.
Then, when we got inside, the cheers increased

“Primus Alexander!” they chanted, shouting like mad men.
Both men and women of all ages and forms lined up along the road like we were warriors who just returned from years of bloody war.
Some were even looking out their windows, screaming like hungry barbarians who had just had their first kill.
Then the chants died down a bit.
I felt all eyes on me.
The crowd parted as we rode through, their curious stares burning into my skin. Whispers rippled through the gathering, growing louder with each passing moment.
“White hair…”
“Those eyes…”
“Is she a ghost?”
“An abomination.”
stiffened at the familiar words, the same ones that had followed me throughout my life. Even here, in a strange pack, I was still the outsider, the freak.
“Look at her,” a man’s voice slurred above the others. “The Primus brings to us a cursed one! She’ll bring death to us all with those…….. soulless eyes!”
