Chapter 16
The brothers faces darkened in an instant
“Rosa’s just mad at us Lev said, his voice ley, any trace of waith gone. “She has nothing going on with our uncle. You should take back what you just
just said Aiden gave her a sharp look, clearly annoyed. “You said yourself–the only said she liked you before the wedding. If it weren’t for all this wedding drama, maybe none of us would’ve realized who we actually care about”
He ficked his gaze away, impatient. “You should just go. We don’t need you here. Even if you don’t ask to break off the engagement, it’s not happening. We’re not going to marry you
Austin jumped in voice flat. “And you don’t need to come take care of us anymore. We don’t want Grandma getting the wrong idea. You and Manan should move out of the house, too. Someone will make sure you’re compensated“:
As soon as he finished Austin pressed the call button by the bed, summoning a nurse
“Don’t let her back in here,” he said. “We don’t want to see her.
The nurse nodded and quickly called for security
“Miss, please leave the hospital, one of the guards said.
Abigail found herself surrounded by nurses and security, ushered toward the exit. She kept looking back at the doorway, her mind spinning
I was just an engagement. Why did they suddenly stop loving her, just like that? Had everything they’d done for her just been an act? She didn’t get it–and she didn’t want to leave vifter everything she’d done, how could she accept ending up with nothing?
She shot one last unwilling glance back at the hospital room, a silent promise burning in her cheat–she’d find her way back to them, no matter what
hside, the room finally fell quiet again.
Lev Austin, and Aiden all looked miserableX
For days now, they’d lost count of how many messages they’d sent Ross Photos of them in hospital beds, apologies, desperate pleas for her to coma–all of it sent
into the void
Not a single reply.
Ley stared at his chat
at with Rosa, regret gnawing at him. The last mossage from her was from a month ago–she’d been worned about him then He remembered that day so clearly. He’d lied to het, made her wait for him in the rain all day, promising to meet at the registry office. “Lov, it’s raining. Dont forget your umbrella
“Ley, did something happen? Is that why you’re not hore?“?
“Lex, the officer is closing soon Will you make it? Please be careful on the road.”
She’d sent message after message, standing in the pouring rain, soaked to the skin, refusing to leave. And he hadn’t replied to a single one. Now, everything was flipped. He was the one sending messages–dozens, maybe hundreds–and Rosa probably hadn’t even looked at them He looked over at his brothers. Austin and Aiden were both staring at their own pilent phones, faces grim.
They were all in the same bou!
Only how did they finally understand what Roca had meant when she said she’d bet she’d never come looking for them again.
Austin couldn’t take it anymore. He called her, over and over until finally–finally–someone picked up
Hosa, can you come to the hospital? I swear I never wanted to marry Abigail. I know now, the person I really-”
He didn’t get to Srish. Anothies voice cut in
“Austin, Rosa’s asleep Don’t wuke her“:
Phil’s voice was low, a little rough, but there was a gentle intimacy in it that made Austin’s heart
