Chapter 2
Just as I was about to turn around and go back to my room, a familiar voice came from behind me. “Zoe?”
I stood frozen in place. The voice made my heart skip a beat.
Turning around, I looked at the man wrapped in a bathrobe and said, “Lance…”
Lance furrowed his brow and said, “When did you come back?”
I opened my mouth and wanted to explain, but he interrupted me,
“The border is dangerous, and the people there need your protection. Why did you come back? Do you want to be a deserter?”
I heard it, and my whole body turned cold.
Seven years had passed, and he showed no concern for me.
He didn’t even notice the bloodstained police uniform I was wearing.
He accused me of being a deserter without asking,
It felt as if my throat was tightly choked, and I couldn’t speak
“It’s almost the New Year’s Day. Because I successfully completed the task, my commander allowed me to go home for a visit.”
Before I finished speaking, a sweet and tender voice interrupted me from inside the room “Lance, are you done yet? I can’t wait….
Lance responded with a sound. Then he said to me without looking at me again, “Since you have returned for a visit, rest for two days and go back.”
Then he closed the door.
Soon, there came a creaking sound from the room.
A sour feeling surged in my heart, and I hastily ran back to my room.
Since I would leave this world in five days, I would completely disappear.
I would clean up all the traces of my life in the room.
I wouldn’t leave behind even a trace of my presence that could bother him,
I looked around the room and saw the dolls he gave me and the jewelry he designed for ine.
He, regardless of his status, climbed 999 steps to pray for the beads that would bring the peace and safety.
Those things were all proof of his favoritism towards me,
But now, everything had changed.
I burned everything he had given me one by one in the yard.
In the end, I threw the beads into the fire.
The flames raped, and everything was burned into ashes.
And my love for Lance was also gradually burned to ashes.
After that, I remembered that there was still something
og left to clean in the room, so I turned around and went back to the room.
The wall was covered with sticky notes, and I tore them off.
Seven years had passed, and some of them had turned yellow.
After that, the wall was left with mottled marks.
It resembled scars, the longer the time passed, the more shocking they became.
I collected my thoughts and took the torn sticky notes to the yard to burn.
Just as I opened the door, I met Lance, who was going to open the door.
The notes were scattered all over t
lover the flour.
Lance frowned in displeasure. “Zoe, why did you burn the things I gave you?” Chapter 2
