“Stop talking nonsense.” Ethan interrupted sharply, his brows furrowing into a deep V

Ethan stood outside the hospital room, his eyes fixed on Claire. After a long moment, he slowly turned around and walked away with heavy steps.
The next moming, sunlight streamed through the windows into the spacious, bright kitchen of the Linwood family estate.
May stood at the kitchen counter, carefully packing the meal she had prepared for Claire into a thermal container. These dishes were made specially for Claire, with the hope that eating well might lift her spirits during her hospital stay!
Just as May reached for the nourishing broth, a delicate hand suddenly stretched over to grab it.
Looking up, May saw Vanessa about to take the broth. Without thinking, she quickly intervened, “Miss Vanessa, this is for Miss Claire.” Vanessa squinted her eyes, her tone dripping with arrogance and disdain. “May, remember your place. You’re just a servant of the Linwood family, not its mistress.”
May froze. She knew she had no right to lecture Vanessa, yet Vanessa seemed oblivious to her own status.
With a sigh, May pleaded, “Miss Vanessa, Miss Claire is injured. This broth is meant to help her recover.”
Vanessa’s face turned sharp and bitter, a cold laugh escaping her lips. “Oh? So she deserves to recover, but I don’t?”
“Miss Vanessa, that’s not what I meant. May tried to clarify, “I meant that Miss Claire is very weak right now, and this is the only nourishing broth left. I wanted her to have it for extra nutrition.”
“So you’re saying I don’t deserve it!” Vanessa’s voice rose, relentless in her anger. “Why can’t I have nourishing broth in my own home? Do I need your permission as a servant? You look down on me because I’m not the biological daughter, don’t you?“!
May frantically shook her head, trying to explain, “Miss Vanessa, that’s not it at all…?

May shook her head in panic. She couldn’t believe Vanessa had twisted the truth so blatantly. In that moment, she profoundly understood the anger and helplessness Claire must have felt when falsely accused.
“Madam, I never said Miss Vanessa didn’t deserve the broth. I only mentioned it was intended for Miss Claire’s recovery.”
Adah remained unsatisfied with this explanation. “So, May, you’re claiming Vanessa is lying?”
Before May could finish, Nathan cut her off, “May, it seems age is muddling your mind. You can’t even tell what’s important anymore.”s “Vanessa is the rightful daughter of the Linwood family.
