Chapter 11
Back in the car, Miranda was still fuming. Seeing Mila engrossed in her phone, she assumed Mila was upset and instinctively wrapped her in a tight hug.!
“Mila, it’s going to be alright. Things s will get better, Miranda consoled.
Mila, caught off–guard by the embrace, felt a mix of gratitude and amusement. However, the pressure on her shoulder made her wince in pain.
“What’s wrong?” Miranda asked, startled. She hadn’t seen Mila cry since her wedding, and it alarmed her.!!
Mila frowned, “It’s nothing, just my shoulder.“2
Miranda paused, suddenly recalling that Leonard’s outstretched arm had hit Mila’s shoulder blade earlier.
With the warmth of the car’s heater, Miranda didn’t hesitate to pull down Mila’s collar. Her eyes watered at the sight.
Mila’s shoulder blade was a patchwork of bruises, purple and blue against her fair skin. Leonard had always been strong, and in trying to stop Mila earlier, he’d used too much force, leaving her injured.X
“Those bastards! They treat people like dirt!” Miranda seethed with anger, tears streaming down her face before Milla even reacted.
“It’s okay, it’ll heal with some ointment, Mila reassured her. But seeing the persistent worry on Miranda’s face, she pulled out her phone and waved it at her friend.”

Displayed on the screen were the intimate photos of Lysander and Giselle that Leonard had forced her to delete.
Mila adjusted her collar and smiled, “Did you forget what I do for a living?”
Although she initially studied computer science for Lysander, who never appreciated her efforts, she had become quite the expert. Recovering deleted photos was a simple task for someone with her skills.
Miranda blinked, “Oh right! You’re amazing, darling)
Careful to avoid Mila’s bruised shoulder, Miranda snuggled into her friend. She knew Milad pursued for Lysander’s sake, despite his indifference.8
But Miranda always admired her friend’s dedication.

Miranda thumped her chest with determination. “We don’t need that jerk. The next one will be much better!”
Mila chuckled, choosing to ignore the sting in her heart. She voiced her concern, “But what about Leonard’s threats today? Your career..
Miranda waved her hand dismissively. “If I can’t even handle my best friend’s case, what kind of lawyer am I? I might as well go home and take over the family business.”
Mila knew Miranda was just trying to reassure her. Being a lawyer was Miranda’s lifelong dream. Why else would a wealthy heiress endure so much hardship to reach her current position? It was certainly not something she’d give up easily.
But knowing Miranda had made up her mind, Mila decided not to protest further. Otherwise, Miranda might get upset?
She smiled and ruffled Miranda’s hair. “Ill be counting on you then. I’ve decided to return to art and design. If it comes to it, I’ll hire you a my personal attorney at a high salary.”
